Grateful for our Veterans
The American Legion is the nation’s largest wartime veterans service organization. Veterans Day is to honor living veterans. Often those veterans in nursing homes are forgotten. For the past several years, F.W. Grigg Post 68 members have visited local nursing homes on Veterans Day so those veterans aren’t forgotten. Post members are committed to mentoring youth, sponsorship of wholesome community programs, advocating for patriotism, promoting strong national security and devotion to our fellow service members and veterans. The Camden County Board of Freeholders and Veteran's Advisory Board will hold a Veterans Day Ceremony this Sunday, November 10th at 1:00 p.m. at Veterans Island in Cooper River Park on N. Park Drive.

Admiral Fallon to Speak
Admiral William J. Fallon, a retired U.S. Navy four-star admiral who was the first Navy officer to be appointed Commander of the U.S. Central Command, will speak at a Veterans Day ceremony aboard the Battleship New Jersey. Fallon, who was raised in Merchantville, and graduated from Villanova University, was the Commander, U.S. Fleet Forces Command and U.S. Atlantic Fleet from October 2003 to February 2005. He served as Commander, U.S. Pacific Command from February 2005 until March 2007. His awards include the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, Distinguished Service Medal, Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, and various unit and campaign decorations. Congressman Donald Norcross (D-1st District) will join him as a speaker during the ship's Veterans Day ceremony on Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. on the ship's forward deck. Battleship volunteer Nan LaCorte will perform the National Anthem and "Taps" on the bugle. A memorial wreath will be cast onto the Delaware River to remember all veterans who have passed.

Merchantville's Election Totals are as follows: Borough Council: unopposed incumbent Democratic councilman Anthony Perno and challenger Raymond Woods, III won - Perno 369, Woods 355; School Board: Adams 309, Perno 326 and filing the third vacancy Mark Iannucci 27 - received the most votes as a write in candidate; Camden County Freeholder: Kane 339, McDonnell 325, Rodriguez 338, Cybulski 154, Gustafson 153, Nance 157; County Clerk: Ripa 342, Gustafson 153; NJ State Assembly: Greenwald 343, Lampitt 341, Papieka 148, Plucinski 145 and Public Question #1 to extend the Property Tax Deduction for Veterans to Continuing Care Retirement Communities: Yes - 287, No - 76.
Dr. "Jack" Rudolf, 107
Dr. John P. “Jack” Rudolph, formerly a longtime Merchantville resident, passed away Saturday, October 26, 2019 at the age of 107. Jack was born in Camden on August 26, 1912, and had very fond memories of how beautiful a city it was to live in at that time. As a young boy, Jack, along with his brothers Richard and Robert moved to Merchantville with their parents Oscar and Ruby. Jack was a graduate of George School, Lafayette College and Jefferson Medical College where he earned his Medical Degree. Dr. Rudolph was a WWII Veteran serving with a core team of local doctors and nurses in the 61st Station Hospital from Cooper Hospital. He spent over three years in North Africa and Italy, earning the rank of Major. He would later serve his community for many years through his own medical practice located in his home on Springfield Avenue in Merchantville. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Friday, November 1st from 5 to 7 pm at the Gaskill-Brown Funeral Home, 33 West Maple Avenue, Merchantville. Costume Contest Brewing!
Think you've got what it takes to win the costume contest at Eclipse Brewing? There's still time! On Wednesday, Oct 23rd, they had a scary Halloween Trivia contest led by Michelle followed by a Halloween Party on Sunday, the 27th. So show your spooky spirit and stop in at Eclipse all dressed up anytime between now and November 3rd and, if we like your costume, we will take a picture. Winners will be decided on Sunday, 11/3. One male and one female will each receive a t-shirt, a pint glass, and 3 tokens - good for 3 beers!
Trick or Treat Downtown
On Halloween - Thursday, October 31st - look for the red flyer in local business windows for Safe Trick-or-Treating in the downtown. Participating Monsterville businesses will display this red flyer for any little ghosts, ghouls or goblins who'd like to get some candy for their goodie bag. And, don't forget to stop by Aunt Charlotte's to get some of their red delicious apples dipped in their one of kind caramel or red candy coating. Charlie and her Chocolate Factory. MES Publishes '18-19 Report
Merchantville Elementary School has published a copy of the 2018-19 Merchantville School Report that was presented at the August 27, 2019 Board of Education meeting where the was shared by the Cheif School Administrator, J. Scott Strong, and the Director of Equity, Curriculum & Instruction, Krista Travaglini. It includes FAQs and data on demographics, absenteeism and discipline.
