It's baaaackkk! Get ready for thrills and chills at the Merchantville School Haunted House "Movie House of Horrors" on October 15th and 16th. Are you brave enough to tour eight rooms of movie fright? Haunting begins at 7:00 p.m. with a "scare free" preview at 6:00 p.m. Refreshments and raffles will round out this fundraising event for the Merchantville School class of 2022. Proceeds benefit the Merchantville School class of 2022 graduation fund. Check back for ticket pricing and more details! Hello, Merchantville parents! We already know you’re doing superhero jobs with ALL of the school changes and at-home learning. if you have a little more to give - and we realize that may be asking a lot right now - the PTA's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) committee is wondering if you might consider sharing a bit of your smarts, and time, with another MES kiddo. In the hope of promoting educational equity, The PTA’s DEI is creating a pool of volunteer parent tutors who are willing to spend a little 1:1 time with a MES student who might need tutoring or even just a little homework help this fall. We hope to pair up students with parents who are knowledgeable in a variety of subject areas for free virtual tutoring sessions. Sessions will be scheduled according to student and tutor flexibility. The Merchantville Board of Education meetings will continue to be accessible via a zoom webinar through August 2020. Due to the Corona virus (COVID-19), the Merchantville Board of Education public meetings are being held online using Zoom, a cloud-based video conferencing tool. These instructions are provided for your convenience and are intended to assist persons in accessing and/or participating in public meetings. If you have questions, prior to the meeting you may call the Main Office during business hours at (856) 663-1091. However, any technical questions should be sent directly to Zoom.

Congratulations to the Class of 2020 from Merchantville School and St. Peter School. Merchantville School celebrated the occasion by sharing a bi-lingual eighth grade graduation video and "babies video" for everyone's enjoyment. Their graduation video begins with a heartwarming message from class keynote speaker, Katherine Santos, who entered 6th grade as a non-English speaking student, and credits student and staff equality, companionship, kindness and tolerance for their success. On June 14th, the SPS Class of 2020 Virtual Graduation went live on facebook and youtube where congratulatory comments could be left by friends and relatives. This is the 90th graduating class of St. Peter School who can proudly call this school their "alma mater".

On June 4th, Merchantville School's Chief Administrator, Scott Strong, published a letter to acknowledge the senseless murder of George Floyd and express the district's unequivocal commitment to empowering students with the skills and voice to make a change and stand up for what they believe is right. MES provides an environment promoting “No Place For Hate” where people are not only tolerant, but accepting of diversity. Students and teachers stand #uKNIGHTed in making the world a better place.

Merchantville School is committed to providing food to the students of Merchantville and this process will continue to be available on Mondays while the building closure is in effect. Grab and go breakfast and lunches for the week were distributed on Tuesday, May 26th from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm., because school was closed on Memorial Day.  To pick-up meals students should use the door by the playground to enter the building. This service is open to all resident students in Merchantville and Haddon Heights High School. For the remainder of this year, there will be no cost to families for meal pick up.  The District has been notified that a waiver was approved for the state.  At this time, all students in the district who have experienced financial hardship due to COVID-19 may receive meals.  It is important to stress that free lunches now include all students who are experiencing financial hardship and not only those students eligible for free or reduced lunch. If you have difficulty getting to Merchantville School to pick up the lunches, please contact Mr. Strong at 856-663-1091 Ext 512 or through email at This email address is being protected from spambots. Gov. Phil Murphy announced on Monday, May 4th, that all public and private schools in the state will remain closed for the rest of the academic year. His statement read, “This is a difficult decision and I know that many students, parents, and staff would like to be able to return to school." Murphy first ordered all schools in the state closed on March 18th and said repeatedly that remote education would continue until at least May 15th. With Monday‘s announcement, all schools will continue online learning through the end of the 2019-2020 academic year. Private schools with longer academic years will remain closed until at least June 30th and a decision on school-sponsored summer programs and Extended School Year services for students with disabilities will be forthcoming. A steering committee will be formed to explore approaches for reopening schools for the 2020-2021 academic year, according to the statement.

The Merchantville Education Association and their PRIDE Grant Chairperson Sherry Iannucci, greeted parents during parent conferences. She applied for a FAST grant through the NJEA PRIDE in Public Education program to make  this experience more meaningful to parents and students. PRIDE in Public Education is a campaign that shares the successes of New Jersey’s public schools while building community support and involvement. PRIDE is proud to support NJEA FAST, or Families and Schools Together work for children, program. The goal of FAST is to involve parents and families in their children’s education through programs and events to help improve student achievement and ensure that families feel welcome and connected to our schools.

The Merchantville Knights are well on their way to the championships. Coach Andrew Korn, Jerry Bennett, and Regina Lovelidge led the girls to the amazing win against the Brooklawn Bears. In the first quarter the Knights were up by 6 or 8. As the game progressed, the other team had catches up. It was now a pretty close game and everyone was playing like a team. The Lady Knights soon had the attitude that they were going to win, and they did! The final score of the game was 33-26 Knights. The other team had many great players. They fought hard against the Lady Knights, but the Knights were too powerful. All of the players did an amazing job, but a couple of standouts were eighth graders Sami Askari and Azariah Ivory - who was all over the boards and shooting great shots. Equally phenomenal was Bryce Westervelt who dribbled up the court with so much confidence it made everyone stare in awe. The Lady Knights will be facing the Somerdale Cavilers in the championships this Saturday. They are excited and can’t wait for the next match!
