New Jersey's Department of Education will receive $2.765 billion to allocate to school districts and Camden County public schools can expect more than $200 million in federal COVID-19 relief funds to get students back in buildings and on track academically after more than a year of learning disruptions. Merchantville School District is slated to receive $779,000. Disbursements to districts vary and are based on a funding formula accounting for the number of students enrolled in the district, poverty demographics and school building age.

Merchantville School re-opened after Spring Break on Monday, April 12th and starting today, Friday, April 16th, in-person students from Kindergarten to 8th Grade will attend 5 days a week from 8:20 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. or 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Their Re-Opening plans are published in English and Spanish on the school website under "News and Announcements" and through Google docs. MES plans include: new arrival and dismissal procedures, a meal distribution plan, a daily COVID-19 student screening checklist and re-opening expectations. Merchantville School is excited to be back in session doing great things with their students. 

It's been a long year and in times like these we can all benefit from an uplifting message! Lucky for us, Merchantville School's National Junior Honor Society wants to better our outlook on life through their "Kindness Rocks Project" - spreading positivity and good cheer across town in the simplest way! This project runs from February 14th - March 14th and everyone is invited and encouraged to participate. 3 easy steps: 1) Collect some rocks from your yard or anywhere outside, 2) decorate them with inspirational or motivational messages using paint, markers, stickers or whatever you think of then, 3) place them around town to brighten peoples' day. Kindness rocks, colored with motivational thoughts and left in random places for others to find, will bring a smile to whoever is lucky enough to come across it. Please share this idea with family and friends.

This week students from Merchantville School received in-person and virtual school year first trimester awards. Congratulations go out to MES 6th graders who received First Honors - students who received straight A's. Keep up the great work Daisy, Caroline, Elliot, Julia, Frankie, Massimo, Jillian, Julian & Grayden. Shout out to 7th grade Principal's List students who received straight A's for the first trimester. Keep up the great work David, Isabella, Ella, Audrey, Eric, Abbie, Owen, Maddie, & Luke. And to our 8th grade Principal's List students who received straight A's for the first trimester. Great job Mikayla, Eli, Jai, Will, Dylan, Isaiah, Milan, Catherine & Spyrandreas. Merchantville School also announced Knights of Honor for the first trimester - students who exhibit the characteristics we expect from all of our students. Great job Heaven, Spyandreas, Peter, Audrey, Sasha and Marlowe!

On June 4th, Merchantville School's Chief Administrator, Scott Strong, published a letter to acknowledge the senseless murder of George Floyd and express the district's unequivocal commitment to empowering students with the skills and voice to make a change and stand up for what they believe is right. MES provides an environment promoting “No Place For Hate” where people are not only tolerant, but accepting of diversity. Students and teachers stand #uKNIGHTed in making the world a better place.

Help save a life by donating at The American Red Cross blood drive at Merchantville School, 130 S. Centre Street, on Tuesday, April 21st from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The Red Cross encourages healthy, eligible people to donate blood and reminds us there is no evidence that shows coronavirus can be transmitted by blood transmission - no cases of respiratory viruses have ever been reported through blood transfusions. Further, the Red Cross has asked potential donors to postpone their donation for 28 days following travel to China and its special administrative regions, Hong Kong and Macau, as well as Iran, Italy and South Korea or diagnosis of COVID-19, contact with a person who has or is suspected to have the virus. Appointments can be made through this link. 

In addition to lesson plans and activities in theses stay-at-home times Merchantville School has focused on connecting to students and MES through "read out louds" on Facebook. Parents and kids can tune in throughout the week to listen as teachers and administrators share stories. Breakfast and lunch will be made available to resident students on a weekly basis beginning March 17th at Merchantville School. Resident students including high school students, may come pick up bag lunches and breakfasts at designated times. Students will need to give their name, grade and school in order to pick up the lunches. Students that pay for lunches will have the amount added to their account balance. Students will enter through the door by the playground, give their information, pick up the lunches and exit out the door by the teacher’s parking lot. On Tuesday, March 17th, students may pick up 4 lunches and breakfasts between 11:00 am and 1:00pm. On Monday, March 23rd, students may pick up 5 lunches and breakfasts between 11:00 am and 1:00pm.
