Joseph S. Holman, 93

Joseph S. Holman, of Moorestown, NJ died peacefully the morning of December 12th after a stroke suffered earlier in the week; he was 93. The executive had overseen the growth of a business that his father had founded in 1924 as a single Ford automobile-and-tractor dealership, to what would become Holman Enterprises, a diversified international company of nearly 7,000 employees. Joe was born in Philadelphia in 1926 to Katherine K. and Steward C. Holman, and grew up in Pennsauken and Merchantville, New Jersey, where he attended public schools. Husband of the late Jean (nee Polk). Survived by their children Jeffrey Holman, Steven Holman and his wife Georgine, Mindy Holman and her husband Frank Beideman. Also survived by 5 grandchildren. Visitations will be held Wednesday, December18th from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm and Thursday, December 19th from 9:00 to 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 101 Bridgeboro Rd. Moorestown, NJ. Followed by a service at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Urban Promise, PO Box 1479, Camden, NJ. 08105. Full obituary.

Virginia 'Bunny' Oakford

Virginia "Bunny" Oakford (nee Hudson), age 93 years of Cinnaminson, passed away on December 10, 2019.  Beloved wife of the late C. Brooks Oakford.  Devoted mother of Candy "Virginia" Curry (Neal), Gail Humes (Dave), Randy Oakford and Penny Trost (Rick).  Loving grandmother of Dana Cornog (John), Clay Curry (Sarah), Dave Humes, Ryan Trost (Sarah) and Cara Trost and great grandmother of Kayleigh, Tyler, Casey, Caitlin, Loa, and Charlotte.  Dear sister of the late Peggy Morrow.
Prior to retirement, Bunny was owner and operator of Aunt Charlotte's Candies in Merchantville since 1947. A Memorial Service will be held in the near future. Falco-Caruso Funeral Home. Courier-Post article.

Breakfast With Santa

Merchantville's annual Breakfast with Santa will take place this Saturday, December 14th from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. at the Community Center, 212 Somerset Avenue. Join us as we continue one of the many great holiday traditions here in Merchantville. For families and children up to 4th grade. No registration is required to attend. Please consider donating a non perishable food item (canned good or boxed good). This event is sponsored by the Borough of Merchantville’s Public Events Committee, with contributions from the Merchantville Task Force.

Wind Symphony Performance

Wind Symphony of Southern New Jersey will perform a holiday concert at the First Presbyterian Church of Merchantville, 10 West Maple Avenue, on Saturday, December 14th from 3:30 – 5:00 p.m. The concert will begin with a musical tribute to Leon DeLoach, a thirty-year member of The Wind Symphony who passed away in September of this year. The program will include Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite and traditional Christmas music as performed by Mannheim Steamroller, the Canadian Brass, and the United States Marine Band. A free will offering will be taken before the concert. Free parking is available behind the church, and an elevator provides handicapped access to the church.

Adult Craft Club

Dannette Strader recently announced the first meeting of her Adult Craft Club beginning on Wednesday, December 18th, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Join in some creative fun, enjoy some tea, coffee, and community with other local crafters. The club will feature a different craft making opportunity every month. This month’s craft will be holiday ornaments. Classes will take place at Ryan’s Retail, 22 North Centre Street and the fee for each class is $10. Dannette is well known to the Merchantville community from the Kid Zone she runs at the weekly Farmer’s Market and tennis lessons offered during Parks & Playgrounds. See the Irish Tenors

Pearl Harbor Commemoration

The Camden County Freeholder Board and Gloucester County Freeholder Board will mark the 78th anniversary of Pearl Harbor, December 7th 1941, on Friday, December 6th at 10:00 a.m. on the Battleship New Jersey. The attack on Pearl Harbor led to the subsequent entry of the United States into World War II. The ceremony will take place on the fantail of the battleship. The event is free and open to the public. WinterFest Ice Skating

Cooper River Park has once again transformed into a winter wonderland with tasty treats, and family fun. The WinterFest Ice Skating rink at Cooper River is open every Thursday – Sunday now through February 17, 2020. Presented by the Camden County Board of Freeholders WinterFest will include more family fun with arcade games in the heated tent and outdoor games for families to enjoy when they are off the ice.
