Seed Shopping?
Why choose Heirloom Seeds, you ask? Exceptional taste is the No. 1 reason many gardeners cite for choosing heirloom varieties. Other great reasons: they are likely to be more nutritious than newer varieties, they are open-pollinated - which means you can save your own seed to replant from year to year, they are “less uniform” than hybrids - which means they often don’t ripen all at once, they are almost always less expensive than hybrids, and finally, many heirlooms have wonderful stories of how they came to America. Seeds saved from heirloom vegetables will produce plants that are true to type, unlike hybrid seeds. Save those seeds, and you can create your own locally adapted variety.
From Diner to House
The restoration phase of the Merchantville Diner - now known as the “Merchant House” is approaching completion. According to owner Patti Sharp, former owner of Station House Restaurant in Haddon Heights, it will be a full service restaurant offering home cooked comfort meals to the community at a reasonable price. They will be open for breakfast and lunch daily and hope to expand their hours to include dinner. To start, they will offer “Take and Bake”, their homemade ready to serve dinners available for take out. Their soups and chicken pot pie are traditional favorites! Patti looks forward to the community sharing their insights and menu ideas. Stay tuned for updates as they become available. The Heights' loss is surely Merchantville's gain and we can't wait!

Latko Family GoFundMe
Recently a local family, the Latko's, received news that no parent ever wants to hear, that their 3 year old daughter, Stella, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Stella also has Down Syndrome, which increases the chances of getting leukemia and developing complications from treatment. She is currently being treated at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and is expected to remain for 4-6 weeks of cancer treatment. As you can imagine, this is a very difficult time for these parents and their 3 other children as they juggle schedules so that one of them is always at the hospital with Stella and also home at night with the other kids. A GoFundMe campaign has been started for the family by a relative to help defray the burden of lost wages, medical bills and other ancillary expenses.
