"Skeeter" Schull, 93

Shull, Dr. Elliott C. "Skeeter" Jr. Age 93, of Pittsgrove Township, passed away on Wednesday afternoon, February 8, 2023 at home. He was born in Camden to Elliott C. and Elizabeth E. Shull (nee Edgar). Skeeter was a graduate of Merchantville High School, Pennsylvania Military College, Hahnemann Medical College and Duke University. He served as a Captain in the U.S. Army at Fort Stewart, GA before returning to New Jersey to join his father's radiology practice, South Jersey Radiology Associates (SJRA). Skeeter was predeceased by his wife M. Jean Shull (nee Reimet), his brother Walter Barrett Shull and sister Elizabeth Bradley. He is survived by his children, Deborah (Craig) Marks of Conifer, CO, Elliott (Irene) Shull of Elmer, Wendy (Bill) Groot of Uxbridge, MA, Brian (Ellen) Shull of Durham, NC, and Gary (Erin) Shull of Loveland, OH. Councilman Joins TBA

Ray Woods has joined Tonio Burgos & Associates (TBA) New Jersey, as Senior Vice President of Government Relations and Public Affairs. Woods will develop and implement government outreach and advocacy strategies to advance client interests and project development. Ray brings over a decade of state and local government experience and is a member of the Merchantville Borough Council. He serves on a number of committees including: the Joint Land Use Board; Shade Tree Commission; Public Safety Committee; Public Works Committee; Sustainability & Environment Committee; Insurance Committee; Police Board; and Director of Recycling & Waste. Formerly, Woods served as the Director of Policy to Assembly Majority Leader Louis Greenwald and Assemblywoman Pamela Lampitt and played an integral role in the development of numerous transformative policies.

Jeffrey Babb, 74

Jeffrey (Jeff) J. Babb, 74, passed away on November 11, 2022 at Virtua Voorhees surrounded by family. Jeff was born in Reading, PA, graduated from St. Joseph's University in 1970 with a BS in Accounting and went on to become a commercial loan officer at Bank of Pennsylvania in Reading, and later a Vice President in Commercial Lending for PSFS in Philadelphia. Jeff moved his family to Cherry Hill, NJ, before settling in Merchantville in 1997, where he has resided ever since. He was an active member of St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church and held positions there as an usher and as a member of the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his loving companion, Madeline McCausland, his son Michael (Xochitl Luna), daughter Sharon (Kevin Wanamaker), beloved sisters Virgina Keller and Jacqueline Bonanno, three step-children Kimberly Luca (Robert), Robert Sochor (Danielle), and Tracey Van Dillen (Paul), and grandchildren: Judith and Ryan Wanamaker, Gabriela and Margaret Babb, Kevin and Daniel Luca, Robert, Brendan and Ava Sochor, and Sarah and Emily Van Dillen, as well as many godchildren and beloved nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may visit with the family Wednesday, November 16th from 6 to 8 pm and again Thursday morning from 8:45 to 9:45 am at the Gaskill-Brown Funeral Home, 33 West Maple Avenue, Merchantville. Ellen Miller, 92

Ellen M. Miller, longtime Pennsauken and Merchantville resident, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 9, 2022. She was 92. She will be lovingly remembered as a thoughtful and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. Ellen was a beloved nursery school teacher at Respond Inc. in Merchantville for many years before retiring in 1995. She was also a longtime member of St. Peter RC Church. She enjoyed reading and listening to music. Wife of the late Ernest Miller; grandmother of the late Christopher Hastings; sister of the late Joan Ollek, Joseph, Edward, and Charles Minnichbach, she is survived by her four loving children, Joann D’Urbanis (Robbie), Tom Miller (Kathy), Kathy Shaloo (Jack), Michele Hastings- Quinif ( Kevin); six adored grandchildren, Patrick, Kevin, Ashley, Michael, Erin, Peter; two cherished great-grandchildren, JJ and Kiana; and several nieces and nephews. Ellen Salmon, 84

Ellen Jane Salmon (nee Hare), 84, passed peacefully on 10/12/22. Married to her Moorestown High School sweetheart, Albert (predeceased), for 60 years, she was happiest when surrounded by her children Cindy Newcomb (Bob), Steve Salmon (Pat) and Anne Schuler (Bob), 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, multiple nieces, nephews, and her beloved friends and church fellow members. Her love of travel took her from NJ to Florida, England, Alaska and Hawaii and many other places too numerous to mention. Her love of scrapbooking was a testament to her love of travel and was a source of great enjoyment amongst her family to see how many pictures can fit into one small house! Funeral service will be held 11 am, Tuesday, October 18th at the Gaskill-Brown Funeral Home, 33 West Maple Avenue, Merchantville. Helen Cowper, 83

Helen C. Cowper, of Surf City, passed away at her home on September 30, 2022. Lynne was born in Camden and raised in Merchantville, NJ. She was formerly of Westchester, PA, where she raised her children and resided in Surf City since 2009. She enjoyed Long Beach Island since she was a child and continued to make those memories with her children. She worked as a realtor for Weichert Realty in Exton, PA for 25 years and raised her granddaughter, Kate. She was a good painter, pottery maker and seamstress and never turned down an opportunity to go shopping. Lynne is survived by her husband of 61 years, William R. Cowper, her children Cynthia Parker and her husband Mark and Timothy Cowper, grandchildren Katelynne Cowper, Madeline Parker, Ryan Parker, Timothy Iamurri, great grandchildren Autumn Cowper, Ava Cowper, Hailee Lopez, Anthony Iamurri along with her sisters, Loretta Ferren and Mary Lou MacFadyen. A Memorial Gathering will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2022. Andrew Donohue, 33

Andrew Donohue, born and raised in Merchantville, passed away on August 8, 2022. He was tall, smart, charming, and outgoing. In his core, he had a wonderful soul and would never hurt anyone, bully anyone emotionally or physically. Andrew was quick to volunteer whether it be at the local school, firehouse and with community projects. He could and would work tirelessly and always wound up in the middle of things. Andrew had a gift for computers and was employed as an IT professional. Andrew's last act and gift to the world was that as an organ donor, enabling him to save or improve the lives of many others. He is survived by his parents, Kris and Michael, his siblings Sean and Laura, his sister-in-law Julia, 14 aunts and uncles, 22 cousins, and many, many friends. Visitation is Saturday, August 13, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Falco, Caruso & Leonard Pennsauken Funeral Home. Full obituary.

Matthew Petronis, 67

Matthew C. Petronis Jr., of Pennsauken passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on August 3, 2022 at 67 years. Beloved husband of Patricia "Pat" (nee Vokes); Devoted father of Mary Catherine (Nicholas) Kolb and Regina Petronis; Cherished grandfather of Noah Kolb; Dear brother of Christine (Joseph) Nardello and Robert (Debra) Petronis; Also survived by many loving brother and sister in laws, nieces and nephews. Prior to retirement, Matt was a proud member of Philadelphia Union Local #14 and was elected as the Credit Union president for many years. His sense of humor was unmatched, he was the life of the party and a great joke teller. "Jack" R. Dillon, III

John "Jack" R. Dillon, III passed away peacefully on June 5, 2022 at Virtua Hospital in Mt. Holly, NJ. Born in Camden to John R. And Cecilia M. Dillon, John was 74 years old. He was a resident of Moorestown for the last 24 years and formerly lived in Merchantville & Pennsauken. Husband of 51 years to Marion D. (nee Max) Dillon. Loving father of John (Laura) Dillon IV and Brian (Melissa) Dillon. Cherished Pop Pop to Patrick, Ryan, Kayla and Krista. Dear brother of Michael L. (Marie) Dillon, Carol M. (Matthew) Berghof and the late James M. (Christine) Dillon. Jack served his country in the National Guard during the Vietnam War and was 1st Vice President Financial Advisor for Morgan Stanley in Mt. Tom McFadden, Jr.

On Saturday, May 7, 2022, Thomas J. McFadden Jr. passed away at the age of 65 after a hard-fought battle with cancer. His wife, Terry, shared the news and her gratitude for everyone who supported and cared for Tom in a FaceBook post. Tom was a lifelong resident of Merchantville, a 1976 graduate of Pennsauken High School, and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a loving husband to Teresa “Terry” McFadden for 43 years. Together they raised three sons, Thomas McFadden and his wife, Jenn; Ryan McFadden and his wife, Carolina; and Shane McFadden. For the past 26 years Tom, along with Terry, were the proud owners of TNT Pest Control, a business he started with his mother, Barbara. He loved what he did, and quickly became known as the “Bug Man.” He was able to build long-lasting and meaningful relationships in the community with his customers, who became more like friends and family. A celebration of life, will be held on Thursday, June 2nd, from 6-10 p.m. at the Pennsauken Country Club, 3800 Haddonfield Road, Pennsauken. Full obituary.

Tom Torok, 73

Tom Torok, 73, of Merchantville, a “lifelong journalist” in his own words, an indispensable and tireless reporter and editor at The Inquirer and New York Times, a trailblazing expert on data-driven journalism, a website developer, international teacher, mentor, lecturer, and veteran, died Sunday, March 6, at Virtua Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Camden. In addition to his wife, Cece, son, Stephen Torok (Sarah Taylor), and daughter, Elena, Mr. Torok is survived by former wife Lena Maria Cooper, a sister, and other relatives. Three brothers died earlier. Visitation with the family is to be from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 12, at the Falco, Caruso & Leonard Funeral Home, 6600 Browning Rd., Pennsauken Township, N.J. 08109.
