Greening the West End

Hi, Neighbors. Now's your chance to help beautify Merchantville's West End for the season! This Saturday, November 23rd, we will be adding holiday greens to the planters on the West End. Saturday should be a perfect day to get some fresh air - 50 degrees and sunny. We are meeting at 9AM at the Wellwood Park gazebo. Please bring gloves and pruners if you have them. As the English writer John Heywood said "many hands make light work" so all volunteers are welcome. Please spread the word!

Freezing Fresh Eggs

As winter is upon us, eventually our chickens will molt and we will be hard pressed to find enough eggs to make breakfast on a Sunday morning . . . So what to do? Even though it might not sound like a difficult job, freezing fresh eggs has come to be somewhat of a skill. Merchantville-Pennsauken Backyard Chickens shares what everyone, who has their own hens, needs to know. Having some eggs ready for an omelet or french toast in winter is always good and eggs are not frozen whole. You will need to crack your eggs into an ice cube tray - preferably silicone. The Prairie Homestead shows you all there is to know about how to easily freeze fresh eggs - separately or together - in just a few minutes.

Journaling for Kids

Eilandarts Center is delighted to offer a six-week course where your child will learn how to keep and love an art journal, on Wednesdays, beginning November 27th. This workshop will enforce the participant's ability to observe his/her environment and channel creativity into art. During the course, we will collect items and fill up the journal with ideas and samples. There will be projects in drawing, painting, collaging and 3-dimensional. We will talk about different artists and their approach to art. The goal of the workshop is to help the young artist to discover their own creativity and find pleasure applying it into art form. Collecting for the Needy

The Love in Motion youth group is collecting again this fall for our homeless outreach in Camden and canned goods for the Cathedral Kitchen. We will be headed back out to volunteer again with New Beginnings Camden on December 7th. In addition to toiletries, we are also collecting winter coats, gloves, hats, boots, shoes, and anything to keep warm - including clothes, underwear, blankets - and we are still collecting towels! The Station Coffee in Merchantville is generously helping out by collecting socks and bags - Ipsy, canvas, or drawstring - you can drop those specific items there. The youth group is also collecting canned goods and non-perishables and will have a collection table at the Merchantville Turkey Trot. You can drop off goods for either to the Fitzgerald/Cooper house at 24 Volan Street or the Aman/Kelly house at 112 Locust Street, or contact us at This email address is being protected from spambots. Visit Merchantville CC

Merchantville Country Club's board recently created a video that showcases the beauty of this 9-hole golf course. The video was shot over two days this fall, the first during their highly successful Pig Roast in late September and the second, on a crisp fall day in late October with the colors at their peak. The finished product presents the natural beauty of the private country club, founded in 1892, and is intended to market the course to golfers who may have an interest in joining the club. The golf course and clubhouse are nestled away on 40 acres of land at the juncture of Merchantville and Cherry Hill, NJ at 501 Chapel Avenue.
