News 12 took an interest in Monsterville this week and were live with Mayor Ted Brennan yesterday to ask about the town's decision to discourage Trick-or-Treating this year. Brennan says that one of the main reasons is a lack of resource “To ask our police officers or anybody to go out there and try to enforce a ban on trick-or-treating just didn’t seem realistic,” he says. “We also felt that there’s a subset of the community that feels comfortable participating in Halloween here in ‘Monsterville.’ We wanted them to have the opportunity to continue to do that.” Other Monsterville Halloween traditions will continue to take place like the annual house decorating competition and the annual eighth grade haunted house - now a socially distant parade. Brennan says that Halloween will return in full force for the next year with the motto, "Double the candy in 2021."

On Halloween - Thursday, October 31st - look for the red flyer in local business windows for Safe Trick-or-Treating in the downtown. Participating Monsterville businesses will display this red flyer for any little ghosts, ghouls or goblins who'd like to get some candy for their goodie bag. And, don't forget to stop by Aunt Charlotte's to get some of their red delicious apples dipped in their one of kind caramel or red candy coating. Charlie and her Chocolate Factory. Monsterville hope's that everyone has a safe and happy Halloween. The designated time for trick-or-treating in the Borough of Monsterville begins after school on Thursday, October 31st, and ends at 8:00 p.m. However, you will often see neighborhood toddlers and pre-school children enjoying “Safe Trick-or-Treating” in the downtown business district and throughout our community as early as 11:00 a.m. Merchantville's 2-day Halloween curfew is posted on the electronic portable message board in front of Borough Hall. The same curfew is in effect on Wednesday, October 30th - commonly known as "mischief night". Merchantville has a Borough ordinance regarding curfew during Halloween. No one under the age of 18 is permitted to be on the streets of Merchantville from 8:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m the following morning.
