Elizabeth McCoy, 84

Elizabeth Louise McCoy died on April 8, 2020, at Spring Village Assisted Living Center in Galloway, NJ. Elizabeth was born on October 5, 1935 to Thomas and Matilda (Tilly) Graham. She attended Merchantville H.S., where she met and married John McCoy. John and Elizabeth were devoted to each another and were married for 60 years. Easter Bunny's Coming

This year's Borough Egg Hunt at the community center has been cancelled in response to the COVID-19 outbreak and the Governor's call to limit large social gatherings so, The Niagara Fire Company will be touring the town with their good friend - The Easter Bunny - on Saturday, April 11th between 1:00 and 4:00 p.m. The Fire company promises to visit every street in Merchantville and urges everyone to be patient! The Easter Bunny wants to remind everyone to maintain social distancing during his tour by remaining in your front yard and not approaching the fire truck. Happy Easter!

Eco-Friendly Research

Rutgers University–Camden junior and Merchantville resident, Emily McDermott, is conducting cutting-edge research that could lead to applications for NASA to use in space. A recipient of the NASA NJ Space Grant Consortium, she is working with an assistant professor of chemistry and an assistant professor of biology at Rutgers–Camden conducting research on using plant-based materials to power batteries that astronauts could use in space in the future. McDermott's innovative project aims to find a more eco-friendly way to power batteries instead of using fossil fuels.

Little League Postponed

Dear Players, Parents, Sponsors and Members of Merchantville Little League: “This is much bigger than any game.” Merchantville Little League along with every other Little League worldwide received the following directive from Little League International: “with the most recent guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) , the Little League International Board of Directors and staff is now strongly recommending that all of its local Little League programs suspend or delay the start of their seasons until no earlier than at least, May 11, 2020.“ Due to this and for the health and well-being of our players and members we are suspending ALL LEAGUE operations including – practices, games, scrimmages, meetings and even our opening day ceremonies and league wide picture day now through at least May 11, 2020. Meals for Seniors

There's an Emergency Meal Plan Program in place for Camden County residents over 60 years old temporarily during this pandemic.  Individuals who are already receiving home-delivered meal services will AUTOMATICALLY get a week's worth of meals delivered once a week, a mix of frozen and fresh meals, dropped off on their porch or, if they live in an apartment complex, it will be delivered to the lobby. The driver will then call the person and let them know the meal is there. They will be doing this every week for the next 3 weeks. For those who are not already receiving home-delivered meal services, they can call 856-374-6325 and arrange to have emergency meals delivered. They do not have to be in the home delivered meals program to receive this temporary service during the pandemic. Marie D. Peze, 99

Marie Peze (nee Dunleavy), age 99 of Merchantville passed away on Friday, March 13, 2020. Beloved wife of the late Richard J. Peze; devoted mother of Richard Peze of Peachtree City, GA, Gary Peze (Diane) of Merchantville and Janice Withers (Dominic) of Tabernacle. Marie is survived by eight grandchildren, Siri Lackovic (Paul), Jeffrey Peze (Monica), Jessica Hickenbottom (William), Brett Peze (Jayne), David Peze (Amy), Ritchie Mazzaglia (Joy), Jillian Ormsby (Christopher), Ashley Cardini (Michael); eleven great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by all seven of her siblings and their spouses. Marie was a 29 year resident of Holiday City in Williamstown and a leader in the Girl Scouts and Boys Scouts. She was an active church member and worked as a bookkeeper for various companies ultimately retiring from Dunleavy’s Restaurant in Hainesport. She was an avid traveler and travel organizer. She particularly enjoyed traveling with her sisters Florence and Helen. Full obituary.

Susan Virginia Baldwin (nee Froyd), of Marlton, passed away suddenly on March 9, 2020. She was 68 years old. Susan was the beloved wife of Thomas Fay Baldwin for 49 years.
