Imagine living 100 years on this earth - for one local man, its a reality. Edgar Munro, who was born on February 8, 1920 in Merchantville, N.J., celebrated his 100th birthday. His family lived in New Jersey where his dad worked in the shipyards until they moved to Loch Haven where he owned the Munro Milk Farm. Edgar remembers helping his dad by delivering milk as a boy. He had seven siblings, one of which is still alive. His brother Alfred B. Munro still resides in Jersey Shore where another Munro family farm is located. Through the years Edgar and his wife Dorothy raised six children and took over the farm. At 100, he's never lost his love of farm tractors and the Antique Machinery Association Show.
Fragrant with herbs and rich with olive oil, focaccia is an Italian flatbread dating back to Roman times. There is no end to the variety of flavorings for this very easy dough and, whether you smother it lavishly in toppings or dress it simply with oil and sea salt, the foundation is the same. In our class, we use biga (a natural leaving) to ferment our dough and create a light, tender, utterly delicious flatbread that you will want to make often. Join us to learn how to make focaccia with Jolynn DeLoach in Merchantville on Sunday, July 26th from 2:00-5:00 p.m. Limited spaces. Register for the class here.

Join us at the 14th Annual James Gillespie Sr. Memorial Benefit on Saturday, February 22nd from 2:00-6:00 p.m. at PJ Whelihan's Pub - Cherry Hill. This year promises to be our biggest and best one yet. After Mr. Gillespie passed away in October 2005, some of his relatives and his children's friends created a memorial benefit to raise money for scholarships for students from St. Lawrence School in Lindenwold where our dad coached basketball to attend Catholic high school. After St. Lawrence closed a few years ago, the proceeds from this benefit have been directed towards Camden’s Catholic Partnership Schools Basketball Program, which consists of both boys and girls from all 5 of Camden's Catholic grade schools. The tickets are $35.00 each which includes live music, beer, food, a great auction and a 50/50. To donate a basket or item for the auction or join our benefit committee, please contact Judyann McCarthy at 215-901-6398.
