Thomas Segrest, Sr.

On May 21, 2021, age 59, of Pennsauken, NJ. He was the beloved father of Michael (Michelle), Philip (Emily), Ashley Siciliano (Michael), Jeremy (Nicole), Debbie Ann Juliano (Jim), Dylan and the late Thomas M. Jr. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; his former wife Debbie (nee Dawson); two sisters Terry Murphy and Donna Bocolo and one brother John Segrest. Lewis Foulke, Sr.

Lewis H. Foulke Sr., age 94 of Merchantville passed away Monday, May 10, 2021. Born March 9, 1927 in Riverton, to the late William and Alice Foulke, he was a World War II US Army Veteran, NRA member, and had retired from PNC Bank after working as a comptroller for many years. Husband of the late Dolores Foulke; brother of the late Chick Foulke, Robert Foulke, and Norman DeLaney; he is survived by three children, Lewis H. Foulke Jr. (Sharon), Thomas W. Foulke, Kerry Foulke Smith (Marty); five grandchildren, and his many nieces and nephews. Full obituary.

Ordination Planned

Bishop Dennis Sullivan will ordain Rev. Mr. Carlo Santa Teresa and Rev. Mr. Steven Bertonazzi to the priesthood on Saturday, May 22nd, at the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes, Mary Mother of Mercy Parish in Glassboro. They are completing seminary studies at Immaculate Conception Conception Seminary, Seton Hall University in South Orange, N.J., will join the ranks of the presbyterate at the 10:30 a.m. liturgy. Rev. Mr. Santa Teresa, 31, a graduate of Camden Catholic High School in Cherry Hill, will celebrate his first Mass on Sunday, May 23, 3 p.m. at his home parish of Saint Peter, Merchantville. Donations for Needy

With warmer weather and more vaccinations underway, the Love in Motion Youth Group announced that they're resuming collection and donation activities and gearing up for some "clean-up" events. Right now, they are requesting toiletries, diapers and wipes during the month of June. They are gathering these items for their homeless outreach in Camden, as well as, South Jersey Mutual Aid. They only need the items listed, so please don't donate things that are not on the list. Edgar Munro, 101

Edgar F. Munro Sr., 101, of 31 John Deere Lane, Mill Hall, Pa., passed away Saturday, May 1, 2021 at Haven Skilled Rehabilitation Center in Lock Haven, where he had been a resident. Edgar was born, February 8, 1920 in Merchantville, New Jersey and was the son of the late John and Anna Fox Munro. Edgar was married to Dorothy Englert Munro, Dec. 5, 1941, she passed away Sept. 22, 2017. He was a Veteran, serving with the U.S. Army during World War II in the Asiatic Pacific Theater, having received a bronze star. He had worked for Adam Dickey as an auto mechanic for many years and had farmed most of his life. Full obituary.

Hospital Worker Freebies

The Macaroni Kid shared some information about Philadelphia museums offering nurses and hospital workers FREE admission to honor them and their work for National Hospital Week. The Academy of Natural Sciences invites hospital workers and up to 3 guests free admission to the museum. The Franklin Insitute invites hospital workers and up to 3 guests free admission to the museum. The Barnes Foundation will be open exclusively for hospital workers on Thursday, May 13, 12:00-7:00 p.m. The Philadelphia Museum of Art and Rodin Museum is offering free general admission for hospital worker plus four guests from May 14-May 17. The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts has free general admission for hospital workers and their guests.

William Metzler III

William Brookes Metzler III passed away peacefully at his home in Merchantville on April 24, 2021. Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years Margaret (Zell) Metzler; He was a loving father to William "Billy" Metzler (Susan) and Jonathan Metzler (Leslie); Devoted and proud grandfather of Jonathan, Andrew and Joseph; Dear brother of Jeraldine (Harvey), Mary (Jerry), Anthony and Sabine (Dan). Bill happily and lovingly served his community throughout his life. In recent years, Bill also enjoyed serving the community through volunteering with the Niagara Fire Company and even working as a crossing guard for the children of Merchantville school. In lieu of flowers, contributions in William's name can be made to: Niagara Fire Company 22 E Park Dr. Merchantville, NJ 08109.ATTN: Bill Metzler Memorial Fund. New County Commander

At the Camden County American Legion committee meeting, on April 15th, Merchantville resident John Brouse was elected as Camden County’s Commander for 2021-2022. John served in the U.S. Army and Army National Guard for 8 years in the Persian Gulf in support of Operation Desert Shield which became Operation Desert Storm. He's been the Post Commander for Merchantville's FW Grigg Post 68 American Legion from 2013-2021. The Post has been active in Merchantville since the early 1920s and hosts events like the Annual PTSD walk to bring awareness to the Veteran suicide epidemic. In 2019 the Post celebrated 100 years and the Borough dedicated a portion of West Chestnut Avenue as "Corporal Grigg Way". The organization is currently promoting a "Build A Brick - Wall of Honor" at Wellwood Park.

Matt Gilliss, 44

Matthew J. Gilliss, D.O. of Haddon Heights, NJ died tragically in a motor vehicle accident in Cherry Hill, NJ during a storm Sunday evening, April 11, 2021. Matt was the youngest child of Dr. Alfred G. "Doc" and Barbara (nee Roller) Gilliss, Jr. and grew up in Merchantville with brothers David and Adam and, sister, Amy. Matt leaves his beloved wife Dr. Heather Crawford and their three treasured children, Gavin, Gabriel and Bella. He was a primary care physician and partner in an Advocare practice in Mt. Laurel, Williamstown and Vineland. Visitation and a memorial mass will take place on Saturday, April 17th. Full obituary.
