Did you know that girl and boy scouts from Troop 119 meet at Trinity Methodist Church every Thursday from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m.? Our girl scouts moved Witch’s House into position in Monsterville earlier this week. Annually, these club members have a fundraising events, host a Spaghetti dinner, move Merchantville's Santa shack into the center of town, compete in a Klondike derby and host a car wash. Spread the word! The Merchantville Holiday Market will take place on Friday, December 10th 5-9 p.m. and Saturday, December 11th 11 a.m.-5 p.m. in downtown Merchantville and in the Station! This year Eilandarts is partnering up with the town wide Holiday Market. You can sign up for an inside table at Eilandarts Center (one 6 ft table space) or a 10x10 tent space outside. The Merchantville Holiday Market is a fine craft show featuring artists of many types, presented in the The Station and downtown Merchantville. The Grace Church Fall Fest 2021 will take place on Saturday, October 30th from 10 a.m to 2 p.m. in Merchantville, NJ. They will have crafters & other vendors, a basket raffle, Trunk or Treat, a food truck & bake sale and the Cherry Valley Model Train Club will host and Open House. Merchantville's Monsterville 5K Zombie Run is also taking place that morning for some extra Halloween-themed fun. Kenneth Larsen, a longtime Pennsauken resident passed away after a brief illness on Friday, October 8, 2021. He was 56. Ken was a dedicated coach and board member of the Merchantville Little League for many years. He was also a member of St. Peter RC Church in Merchantville. Son of the late George and Lorraine Larsen, he is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Lynn (nee Prescott); a beloved son, Kenny; a dear sister, Laurie Szogi (Tony); and a cherished niece, Gia. John N. Alloway, 60 passed away on September 20, 2021. he was a life-long resident of Merchantville and is survived by his loving and devoted partner in life and business, Connie McGlynn, dear son John and his mother Elizabeth, sisters Mary Beth (Frank) Spitz, Rosemary Brooker and Regina (William) McGrail, uncle Bryan McKernan and many nieces and nephews. John was a 1979 graduate from Bishop Eustace, earned his Bachelor’s degree from St. Joseph’s University and was the owner of the Alloway Funeral Home. John was very active in his community, serving as a Merchantville Councilman for 12 years and a Camden County Committeeman. He was a loyal Roman Catholic and very proud to be a Past Grand Knight of St. Peter Council #6735 and a member of the Bishop J.J. McCarthy Assembly 4th degree Knights of Columbus. Nancy Anne Carroll of Holland, PA died peacefully on Wednesday September 22, 2021 at her residence at Holland Village. She was 90 years young. Born in Pittsburgh, Nancy was the beloved wife of the late Thomas W. Carroll, who died in 1997. Daughter of the late Albert and Catherine (Chambers) Doughty of Pittsburgh, PA. She formerly lived in Merchantville NJ, Bensalem, Philadelphia and Leesburg FL. Her professional career spanned many years in the insurance industry, having worked for Richard Hardenberg Insurance, Group of Marlton, NJ and retired from Cigna Insurance Co. Phila, as an Executive Manager. Robert A. Johnston, 85, formerly of Pennsauken and Medford, NJ, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at the Samaritan Center, Voorhees, NJ. Born in Camden, NJ, Robert was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, and former Captain of the Pennsauken First Aid Squad, and the former Lakes Emergency Squad of Medford. He was also a member of the Niagara Fire Co. in Merchantville, and the Odd Fellows in Medford. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Rose Johnston (nee Odor); and his children, Robin Sammons, and Jeffrey Johnston and his wife Sheila McGinn. Full obituary.
Alyce died on Tuesday, September 7, 2021. At the age of 95, she was one of the oldest residents of Merchantville. Alyce’s family moved to town when she was 17, and she died, peacefully, in the same home she lived in for 78 years. Alyce is preceded in death by her sister Mildred (known as Mimi) who also was a life long Merchantville resident. In her youth, Alyce was a member of the Merchantville Playcasters which performed in the building now occupied by the Blue Monkey. She also served many years in the Clerk’s office of Merchantville and is remembered for both attention to detail and efficiency in handling the many submissions that crossed her desk. Following her retirement, Alyce lived a quiet life, spending holidays with her neighbors and adopted family, Steve and Cindy Volkert and their family members. A graveside funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at the Lakeview Memorial Park. All are welcome Full obituary.
George O'Neill, 73, of Medford, passed away peacefully at home, on Saturday August 28, 2021, with his loving wifeand soulmate, Lynne Patrice O'Neill. He was on born February 4th, 1948 to the late Joseph and Gladys O'Neill. George attended the Merchantville school system and after high school was drafted into the US Army to fight in the Vietnam War. He received a Bronze Star medal for his distinguished service in Vietnam. George was an equestrian, an animal lover, and a Pinelands preservation advocate. Alijah Floyd-Brown's life will be celebrated during service at Alloway Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 1st at 11:30 a.m. Alijah was 9 years young and an incoming fourth grader at Merchantville School who bravely fought glioma cancer for 15 months. He passed peacefully on August 24, 2021. During those difficult months the school and greater Merchantville community stepped up to support the Brown family. That effort continues through an aftercare drive on GoFundMe. Alijah is survived by his mother, Galaxy Brown, father, Troy Floyd-Brown, his sister, Serenity Floyd-Brown, grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Brown and GG Thomas Brown and, a host of aunts, uncles and cousins. First Presbyterian Church in Merchantville is seeking a Director of Youth and Young Adult Christian Education. This is a 20-hour per week part-time position. A successful candidate will develop and implement appropriate curriculum and lessons for Jr. High, High School, and post-graduate level youth and actively promote the groups' participants' involvement with the services and activities of FPC. They will report directly to the Christian Education Committee, as well as the Sr. Pastor of FPC, and will be responsible to the FPC members and congregation via the C.E. Committee and the pastor.
