Merchantville's annual Breakfast with Santa will take place this Saturday, December 10th from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. at the Community Center, 212 Somerset Avenue. Join us as we continue one of the many great holiday traditions here in Merchantville. For families and children up to 4th grade. Play games, make a craft or two, and enjoy some treats! Kids can have a FREE picture with Santa! No registration is required to attend. Please consider donating a non perishable food item (canned good or boxed good) or a new, unwrapped toy.. This event is sponsored by the Borough of Merchantville’s Public Events Committee, with contributions from the Merchantville Task Force.
Jeffrey (Jeff) J. Babb, 74, passed away on November 11, 2022 at Virtua Voorhees surrounded by family. Jeff was born in Reading, PA, graduated from St. Joseph's University in 1970 with a BS in Accounting and went on to become a commercial loan officer at Bank of Pennsylvania in Reading, and later a Vice President in Commercial Lending for PSFS in Philadelphia. Jeff moved his family to Cherry Hill, NJ, before settling in Merchantville in 1997, where he has resided ever since. He was an active member of St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church and held positions there as an usher and as a member of the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his loving companion, Madeline McCausland, his son Michael (Xochitl Luna), daughter Sharon (Kevin Wanamaker), beloved sisters Virgina Keller and Jacqueline Bonanno, three step-children Kimberly Luca (Robert), Robert Sochor (Danielle), and Tracey Van Dillen (Paul), and grandchildren: Judith and Ryan Wanamaker, Gabriela and Margaret Babb, Kevin and Daniel Luca, Robert, Brendan and Ava Sochor, and Sarah and Emily Van Dillen, as well as many godchildren and beloved nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may visit with the family Wednesday, November 16th from 6 to 8 pm and again Thursday morning from 8:45 to 9:45 am at the Gaskill-Brown Funeral Home, 33 West Maple Avenue, Merchantville. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 am, Thursday, November 17th at St. Peter RC Church, 43 West Maple Avenue, Merchantville. Full obituary.
Ellen M. Miller, longtime Pennsauken and Merchantville resident, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 9, 2022. She was 92. She will be lovingly remembered as a thoughtful and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. Ellen was a beloved nursery school teacher at Respond Inc. in Merchantville for many years before retiring in 1995. She was also a longtime member of St. Peter RC Church. She enjoyed reading and listening to music. Wife of the late Ernest Miller; grandmother of the late Christopher Hastings; sister of the late Joan Ollek, Joseph, Edward, and Charles Minnichbach, she is survived by her four loving children, Joann D’Urbanis (Robbie), Tom Miller (Kathy), Kathy Shaloo (Jack), Michele Hastings- Quinif ( Kevin); six adored grandchildren, Patrick, Kevin, Ashley, Michael, Erin, Peter; two cherished great-grandchildren, JJ and Kiana; and several nieces and nephews. In addition, Jack’s NY Bagel, across the street, is also opening at 5:00 a.m and will offer a Fisherman’s Special! Any anglers that fish our 5th Annual Surf Fishing tournament on Saturday that are active or retired military will be given a free ticket into a raffle for this American Flag glider donated by Jeff Bajek @ Striper Bites lures. Ellen Jane Salmon (nee Hare), 84, passed peacefully on 10/12/22. Married to her Moorestown High School sweetheart, Albert (predeceased), for 60 years, she was happiest when surrounded by her children Cindy Newcomb (Bob), Steve Salmon (Pat) and Anne Schuler (Bob), 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, multiple nieces, nephews, and her beloved friends and church fellow members. Her love of travel took her from NJ to Florida, England, Alaska and Hawaii and many other places too numerous to mention. Her love of scrapbooking was a testament to her love of travel and was a source of great enjoyment amongst her family to see how many pictures can fit into one small house! Funeral service will be held 11 am, Tuesday, October 18th at the Gaskill-Brown Funeral Home, 33 West Maple Avenue, Merchantville. Interment will follow in Lakeview Memorial Park, Cinnaminson.
