Beatification Inspires Knights
On May 27, 2020, Pope Francis announced that the Venerable Father Michael J. McGivney, founder of the Knights of Columbus, will become beatified on October 31st. The ceremony will occur during a special Mass at the Cathedral of St. Joseph in Hartford, CT. This exciting news was welcomed by Knights of Columbus councils worldwide including George Pierlott, Grand Knight of Council 6735 out of Merchantville’s Saint Peter Parish. “It’s a great group of men, always willing to help,” he said. A Grand Knight since July 1st, and a member of the council since 2006, Pierlott has joined his brothers in assisting the parish during COVID-19. Their work has included setting up the parish’s live-streaming of Masses; organizing a drive-up and drop-off to fill the pantry of the parish’s local Saint Vincent de Paul Chapter, and help feed over 50 families each month; and providing funds for the church’s sanitizing supply.
Death Cases Reconciled
On September 23rd, members of the Borough's Public Health Department and OEM, Joan Brennan and This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., sent a request to Camden County Health Officer & Public Health Coordinator, Dr. Paschal Nwako, to ask for a reassessment of the sudden increase in Covid-19 deaths identified in Merchantville between Friday, September 18th and 21st. Merchantville suspected that the county had accidentally attributed deaths to Merchantville residents rather than Pennsauken residents who shared our 08109 zip code. The Borough has been following county case and death data tracking for seven months so, the unexpected jump from three (3) to eleven (11) deaths over the weekend was very concerning. Dr. Nwako's team, who had recently evaluated the county deaths numbers to align with the state confirmed deaths numbers available at www.covid19.nj.gov., worked to cross-check the addresses within the 08109 zip code to determine if these persons were indeed residents of Merchantville when the deaths occurred. On Wednesday, October 7th, the Camden County Division of Emergency Management published reconciled all "deaths by municipality" as identified by the County Health Officer and the number of deaths in Merchantville, attributed to Covid-19, was reduced from eleven (11) to one (1).

Seasonal Treats
Candy apples have been around for a long time. This vibrant red apple confection usually hits the shelves in the month before Halloween and you can find them every fall at Aunt Charlotte's. According to some sources, in 1908, a candy maker named William W. Kolb was looking for ways to draw customers into his little shop in Newark, New Jersey during Christmastime. To do so, he experimented with a red cinnamon candy, melted it down, and dipped apples on sticks into the sweet yet spicy coating. Delicious Red Candy apples and yummy Caramel Apples are being made now in Aunt Charlotte Candies factory so, stop by and get yourself a nice treat today!

Let the "Boo-ing" Begin!
Undeterred by the pandemic, "We've Been BOOed!" gift totes will be making their magical way from house to house in Monsterville soon! First one neighbor, then another - then, before you know it, it's your house! This enchanting tradition of friendly community fun surprises neighbors, friends or family with a gift that you make and leave at their door. Halloween BOO-ing begins when one neighbor secretly leaves a small gift basket, a BOO poem, BOO instructions and a BOO sign at a neighbor's doorstep. The lucky BOO-ee is asked to post the sign near the door, alerting others that "We've Been BOO-ed!" In turn, the neighbor is asked to BOO two other households, creating a chain reaction of Halloween fun. Day by day, the BOO signs proliferate. Before you know it, the entire neighborhood is sporting BOO signs, and everyone is guessing. Anyone who gets Booed and needs copies of the BOO poem, BOO door sign or Booing instructions can pick them up after October 1st in the plastic tote outside Monsterville Borough Hall!
