Grinch On The Loose!

Beware and watch out Merchantville friends and neighbors! it looks like the Grinch has come down from Mt. Crumpet and been seen lurking about town hoping to steal our Christmas cheer! That hairy, avocado green grouch with BIG yellow eyes and Santa cap was  spotted this week tip-toeing around the side yard and front steps of homes on Volan Street, Poplar, Clifton and West Walnut Avenues. Last night, plotting to end holiday celebrations, he tried to scare the boy scouts during their meeting near the trail but, thanks to Mr. Waldron's quick action he was chased away. Later that same night the miserable fellow grabbed a festive planter from the mayor's home but, the shrieks and squeals from the Brennan kids sent him packing. Be vigilant citizens. COVID won't ruin our Christmas and neither will the Grinch!

Winter Storm Advisory

The Borough of Merchantville continues to monitor the forecast for our first winter storm this season. In anticipation, we want to remind the residents of a few ways they can assist us in ensuring the roads are safe and passable. Depending on the duration and amount of snowfall, Borough trucks may plow your street several times. The Borough reminds residents to park all vehicles off the street and in driveways, to help plows navigate safely and efficiently. Where driveways are not available, we ask residents to please limit parking to one side of the street. Unless it’s absolutely necessary, please stay home and off the road for the duration of the storm. Limiting travel during and immediately after snowfall allows plow crews and emergency personnel to do their job safely, and greatly reduces the potential for accidents.

Here are some helpful hints to make snow removal less frustrating:
· Remove portable basketball nets from the street in front of your house.
· Do not park cars on the street from one hour after the snow has continuously fallen until 12 hours after the snow has stopped. This speeds the removal process and prevents cars from being plowed in.
· If possible, wait until the Borough plows have made a few passes on your street before cleaning your driveway.
· Do NOT shovel or blow snow into the street. Snow blowers should be adjusted so they blow snow toward your house.
· To ensure the safety of pedestrians, residents are reminded they must remove snow from sidewalks within 24 hours after completion of a snow fall

The end of the snowfall doesn’t mean the end of our work. Public Works employees will be working continuously to provide the best possible service to residents, and to ensure roads are cleared as quickly and safely as possible. Thank you for your help during this storm!

Treat Your Pooch To Javy's

Javi's Gravy Sauce for Dogs is an easy and affordable way to add fresh flavors and smells to your dog’s dry food. Owner, Javi Quinones, dogs Bear and Buddy were picky eaters and never ate their dry food, and didn't like wet food - even the expensive kind. So Javi came up with a gravy made of 100% fresh meat or fish, kale, spinach, carrots and omega3 to mix with the dry food and they loved it! He thinks your doggie will too! The great thing is now our dogs are getting fresh healthy food and they lick their bowls clean. Shop online or stop by his shop at 177. S. Centre Street to grab some gravy for your pet's holiday dinner. #shopsmall #shoplocal

Winter Storm Prep Begins

Today is the calm before the storm and you should prepare for what's to come tomorrow. A Winter Storm Warning is now in effect for portions of northern New Jersey and southeast Pennsylvania. A High Wind Watch is now in effect for the coastal strip of New Jersey and Delaware.Starting at 10 a.m. Wednesday morning, a winter storm warning is in effect for at least seven northern Jersey counties, with forecasters now predicting up to 24 inches of snow accumulation. Mt. Holly forecasts a huge gradient across the city with 6" near the airport and 10-12" in northeast. A mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain is possible with potential for significant impacts to travel between the I-78 and I-95/295 corridors. A coastal flood watch has also been issued for the Jersey Shore, as residents can expect to see minor to moderate flooding near coastal and bayside communities, forecasters said. Many roadways may become blocked and damage to vulnerable structures may occur, due to strong winds and gusts up to 50 mph in some areas. Follow NWS Mt. Holly on Twitter.
