Trees to be Removed

The Merchantville Shade Tree Commission received a grant from the NJ Forestry Program to undertake a tree inventory for the town and, as a result, some of our trees were determined to be dead, dying or diseased. To avoid hazards we will begin removing trees from the priority 1 list. The trees on this list have been marked with a pink ribbon, trees on the following street locations - 5 Clifton, 13 Clifton, 13 West Chestnut, 19 West Chestnut, 117 Leslie (2), the Multi-Use Path across from 13 West Chestnut, 40 Volan, 70 Volan, 104 Volan, 220 Volan & Lexington, 300 Volan and 126 St. James - have been contracted for removal within the next two weeks. Light the Night

Here ye, here ye! "Light The Night" will go live on the sidewalks of Merchantville on Thursday, December 24th, at 7:00 p.m. This is a night when we can all come together as a community in unity, love, and light during these difficult times. On this evening, residents will line their curbs with luminaras - brown paper luminary bags - setting the streets of Merchantville alight at seven o'clock in support of our fellow neighbors, in memory of those lost during this pandemic and in tribute those family members we cannot be with during the holidays. Resident John Reeve circulated this idea on social media about two weeks ago and it's quickly gained momentum. ,He's put an instructional "how to" video together to assist everyone in making their luminarias and, answer your questions on the event Facebook page. If you're curious about how many luminaria bags you can make with a 50 pound bag of sand the answer is 70 - using one cup of sand in each. To determine how many brown lunch bags and votives to get, please remember that luminaria" should be spaced 3 feet apart so, if your property is 60 feet wide, want to buy and make 20 luminaria. Get in the spirit on December 24th!

Robertitos Cuisine

Roberto Cruz Cotto was born in Ponce. Puerto Rico and was fascinated by the culinary arts from a very young age. Inspired by his mother's cooking - which has always been his passion - he watched her make her meals with delight. His fervor for cooking was so great that he left after school to help his friend who was in charge of a restaurant, El Patriota, in the city of his birth and was given the opportunity to master his skills at this quaint eatery in the principal cooking style of puerto Rico - Creole cuisine or "cocina criolla". His travels soon led him to New Jersey where he began to work and develop in other areas, but always with the hope of being able to cook one day. After many sacrifices and much work running a successful food stand he is close to seeing his dream realized. In November 2020 Roberto will realize this vision as he opens Robertitos Cuisine, 177 S. Centre, at the Circle, in our beautiful town, Merchantville NJ. How lucky all of us will be to enjoy his mofongos and carne frita! Welcome, Chef Roberto! Visit his Facebook page to check out their menu.

Officer Rulli Fundraisers

A few weeks ago, my family's great friend and an officer with Merchantville Police Department was diagnosed pancreatic cancer. He is. He is married with three children. The money raised through this "Reps for Rulli" GoFundMe campaign will directly go to help his family as he fights this terrible disease. I will also be starting a series of lifting marathons, where I, along with friends, will challenge ourselves to incredible feats in order to raise money. Our first event will be a 12 hour lifting marathon, where we will complete a 12 hour non-stop workout. We hope to challenge ourselves to a 24 hour challenge workout shortly after. Our family friend was an avid lifter when he was younger, and we feel this challenge is highly fitting. Another way to donate to help out is through the No Shave Fundraiser, through the Venmo account @FOPGarden-StateLodgeThree, listing Rulli66 in the description. Chief Grassia and Chief Nettleton of the Merchantville Police Department and the Pennsauken Township Police Department have allowed us to begin growing our beards early. For a $30 donation in November and in December, we are supporting our Brother in Merchantville battling advanced pancreatic cancer. If you would like to donate to this fundraiser you can Venmo us or mail a check to our Lodge. We thank you in advance for your donations and help in this trying time. Thank you. We have received an enormous amount of support already. We can’t thank you all enough! Please specify Rulli66 on either of those donations. Thank you!
