Happy 5th Anniversary
September 15th marked a 5 year anniversary for A Milli Little Things and owner, Saleemah Smith, shared her personal journey on social media. "Wow! I can't believe it. I remember nervously hitting the "Live" button on my Shopify account and paying more for the shipping cost than the actual order on my first sale because I simply didn't know how to ship. I've learned so much on this journey, and still daily. I started with one product and now I'm up to 84 with more than 200 varieties. I couldn't imagine that." She thanked everyone who supports her with reposts, purchases, visits, advice or spreading the word. None of it goes unnoticed! You're invited to celebrate her 5 year business anniversary and first year in her Merchantville storefront on Saturday October 3rd featuring super deals, wine, and food to go.

The Oaks District
The Oaks Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997. "The Oaks," located in Merchantville, New Jersey, is a planned neighborhood of upscale, early-twentieth century suburban houses envisioned by landscape architect George E. Rhedemeyer and developed by the Oaks Realty Company which he formed in 1910. Designed during the early years of the automobile age and for the most part, before the First World War, The Oaks became Merchantville's twentieth-century showcase and its gateway for vehicular traffic entering the Borough from Wellwood Avenue, later renamed Browning Road, and includes 320 W. Maple Ave., 101-201 (odd numbers) Browning Rd, 308-318 (even numbers) Volan St., and 1-3 Oak Terrace. The Oaks Historic District contains an assemblage of the period's revival styles, several representatives of which were designed by Arnold H. Moses, long-time Merchantville resident and the Borough's most prolific architect during the first quarter of the twentieth century. Because The Oaks contains a concentrated group of Merchantville's most fashionable residences associated with the automobile age of the Borough's developmental history, and the resources reflect the discrete plan laid out by Rhedemeyer and the architectural work of Moses, the district is eligible for the National Register of Historic Places. The period of significance begins with Rhedemeyer's acquisition of the land in 1909 and terminates around 1937 when the last of the initial homes in The Oaks was built. PTA DEI Seeking Tutors
Hello, Merchantville parents! We already know you’re doing superhero jobs with ALL of the school changes and at-home learning. if you have a little more to give - and we realize that may be asking a lot right now - the PTA's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) committee is wondering if you might consider sharing a bit of your smarts, and time, with another MES kiddo. In the hope of promoting educational equity, The PTA’s DEI is creating a pool of volunteer parent tutors who are willing to spend a little 1:1 time with a MES student who might need tutoring or even just a little homework help this fall. We hope to pair up students with parents who are knowledgeable in a variety of subject areas for free virtual tutoring sessions. Sessions will be scheduled according to student and tutor flexibility. If you can support one of our awesome MES kiddos as a parent tutor this fall, please click this link to register. Email This email address is being protected from spambots. COVID-19 herd immunity: where are we?
Herd immunity is a key concept for epidemic control. It states that only a proportion of a population needs to be immune - through overcoming natural infection or through vaccination - to an infectious agent for it to stop generating large outbreaks. A key question in the current COVID-19 pandemic is how and when herd immunity can be achieved and at what cost. Herd immunity is achieved when one infected person in a population generates less than one secondary case on average, that is, the average number of persons infected by a case dropping below 1 in the absence of interventions. Taking these considerations into account, there is little evidence to suggest that the spread of SARS-CoV-2 might stop naturally before at least 50% of the population has become immune. With flu pandemics, herd immunity is usually attained after two to three epidemic waves, each interrupted by the typical seasonality of influenza virus and more rarely by interventions, with the help of cross-protection through immunity to previously encountered influenza viruses, and vaccines when available
International Arrival Changes
Beginning September 14, 2020, the US Government will remove requirements for directing all flights carrying airline passengers arriving from, or recently had a presence in, certain countries to land at one of 15 designated airports and halt enhanced entry health screening for these passengers. Currently, enhanced entry health screening is conducted for those arriving from, or with recent presence in, China (excluding the Special Administrative Regions of Hong Kong and Macau), Iran, the Schengen region of Europe, the United Kingdom (excluding overseas territories outside of Europe), Ireland, and Brazil. Resources will instead be dedicated to more effective mitigation efforts that focus on the individual passenger, including: pre-departure, in-flight, and post-arrival health education for passengers; robust illness response at airports; and, voluntary collection of contact information from passengers.

It was launched in 2020, the year of the COVID-19 pandemic - a time when connection and unity were urgently needed.
