Patrick "Pat" Smith, 35
Patrick Smith passed away suddenly on July 25, 2019. Patrick grew up in Merchantville. He was a member of Merchantville Elementary School's class of 1998 and Camden Catholic, class of 2002. He is survived by his loving parents, Stephen Smith and Cynthia Smith; his siblings, Rosemary (Kurt) Geisler, Christopher Smith, Matthew Smith and his wife Carol; his wife Alana (nee Davis) and his beloved children, Ella Marie and Liam Henry as well as a large extended family. A resident of Marlton, Patrick worked for Quad Graphics in Westampton, NJ. Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation on Friday, August 2nd from 10:30 a.m to 1:00 p.m. at the Healey Funeral Home, 9 White Horse Pike, Haddon Heights, NJ where his Service will take place at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations to the Seabrook Foundation, In memory of Patrick Smith. 3rd Annual PTSD Walk
Wear the Eagle. Bring Old Glory. Support your Veterans. Please walk with Merchantville's American Legion Post 68 to bring awareness to the 22 Veteran a day suicide epidemic. The 3rd Annual PTSD walk will begin directly behind Eclipse Brewery on Merchanville's scenic bike path located at East Park and Gilmore Avenues. The walk is about 2 miles round trip - an easy walking/running pace - and both child and pup (on a leash please) friendly . This walk is FREE and registration for the organization is not required. Ann Englehart Storey
Eliza A. “Ann” Englehart Storey, 92, died Thursday, July 4, 2019. Ann was born June 24, 1927, at home, 1821 Market St., Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, to William Homer Englehart and Margaret Row Englehart. She is survived by her husband of almost 70 years, Richard; three sons, Douglas (Claire), James (Robin) and Robert (Anne); seven grandchildren, Robert, Sarah, Brian, Nathan, Elena, Nicholas and Michael; three great-grandchildren, Madison, Jane and Mattax; and many nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 10, at Williamsburg United Methodist Church, 500 Jamestown Road, Williamsburg.
When in Doubt
When in doubt, THROW IT OUT. Beginning on July 26th, recycle cans in Merchantville will not be picked up if items such as, plastic bags, pizza boxes and plastics other than #1 and #2 are mixed in the can. Cans will be tagged and residents will receive a flyer on the can with the guidelines for items that can be recycled. Camden County wants to make single stream recycling easy and will only accept rinsed plastic or glass bottles, jars and jugs, rinsed aluminum and steel cans, clean paper, and clean cardboard. Elizabeth "Bette" Vasta
Elizabeth Anne (Lerch) Vasta, age 86, daughter of Ben and Virginia Lerch, passed quietly in her sleep after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease on July 1, 2019 at the Masonic Home in Burlington County, NJ. Bette was raised in Merchantville, NJ, where she spent most of her life. She attended Merchantville Elementary School and Merchantville High School, and graduated with a B.S in Chemistry from Bucknell University. Bette also trained and then volunteered as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) in her hometown of Merchantville. She captained the volunteer squad for over two decades and served as their president for over 15 years. A visitation is scheduled for 10:00 am on September 6th at Trinity United Methodist Church, followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 am. Thomas Wallace Jr.
It is always difficult saying goodbye to someone we love and cherish. Family and friends must say goodbye to their beloved Thomas Wallace Jr., Merchantville, New Jersey, who passed away on July 22, 2019. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 10th 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 10 W Maple Ave, Merchantville, NJ. July BOE Meeting
Agenda items for approval at the July 23rd Board of Education meeting included extending the Early Dismissal time for Merchantville School to 12:45 p.m. - previously 12:30 - Early Dismissal Days will run from 8:20 – 12:45 with bag lunches being served to all students in the school. Approval of tuition contracts with Kingsway and YALE schools for students, and the tuition contract with Haddon Heights Board of Education for regular education tuition, special education tuition, and 2017-2018 tuition adjustment in the amount of $2,080,634.00 for the 2019-2020 school year. The BOE July agenda addendum was for hiring approval of Christina Folk as a part-time Mathematics teacher starting September 1, 2019 at BA Step 3.
