Progress at Community Center

Alterations and extensive renovations to the Merchantville Community Center and Senior Center are continuing this summer. Bids were received in October, 2018 and the project was awarded to Settembrino Architects, Red Bank, NJ. This project, undertaken by the Borough of Merchantville and the Camden County Improvement Authority, has an anticipated completion date of July, 2019. Anyone who would like to know more about the project, can stop into Borough Hall and look at the plans. The back section of the building and playground area are not accessible during construction.

Community Garden Plots

Merchantville has a Community Garden at the Community Center and from time to time, there are garden plots available.  Merchantville's Community Garden is a single piece of land located behind the baseball field at the Community Center. It is gardened and maintained collectively by a group of residents and students. Our community gardens utilizes either individual plots on this public land to produce fruit, vegetables, and plants for food and food sharing. Please contact Kris Donohue at kdonohue202@gmail if you are interested in having a sunny plot in this garden next year.

Law Enforcement Exam

If anyone is interested in a career in public safety or law enforcement, the New Jersey Civil Service Commission is accepting applications now through August 31, 2019. The list includes: Municipal Police Officer, County Police Officer, Campus Police Officer Recruit, Police Officer Recruit Human Services, Sheriff’s Officer, County Correction Officer, State Correctional Police Officer Recruit, and a Correctional Police Officer Recruit, Juvenile Justice Commission. Also available on this site is information pertinent to the Entry-Level Fire Fighter examination process.

National Night Out

The Borough of Merchantville invites you to join the members of the Merchantville Police Department and the members of the Merchantville Fire Department for our annual National Night Out celebration. This years National Night Out will take place on August 6th from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Merchantville Community Center, 212 Somerset Street. National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring policemen, firemen and neighbors together under positive circumstances.

Cool Down at Frozen, Jr.

Pennsauken Youth Action Committee will perform “Disney’s Frozen Jr.” at Pennsauken High School, 800 Hylton Road on: Friday, July 26th at 7:00 p.m., Saturday, July 27th at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., and, Sunday, July 28th at 2:00 p.m. Based on the book by Jennifer Lee and adapted for children ages 7 to 14, “Disney’s Frozen Jr.”  is a popular 2018 Broadway musical and brings the memorable characters and songs from the highly popular animated film onstage. A story of true love and acceptance between sisters, “Frozen Jr.” expands upon the emotional relationship and journey between Princesses Anna and Elsa. When faced with danger, the two discover their hidden potential and the powerful bond of sisterhood. Tickets: $8.00 for adults and $5.00 for children and seniors. Tickets will also available at the door.

Freeholder Meeting in Merchantville

Camden County's Board of Chosen Freeholders held their monthly meeting at the Merchantville Community Center last evening. Some proposed resolutions included an agreement between the county and Cooper River Yacht Club for kayak rental, $150,000 for countywide dam repairs, $500,000 for youth gang desistance/divergent grant funds, $32,000 for electronic faxing machines, $54,000 for video camera upgrades, and $966,000 for the purchase of a server system for the Department of Corrections. A Community Award was given to Cindy Hertneck from the Merchantville Garden Club, a sustainability award to Mary Ellen Lane for her work on the Cherry Hill Environmental Board, a proclamation honoring Camden native Theresa Thoulouis, Team USA gold medalist and individual bronze medalist at the WKC World Championship in Dublin, Ireland and National Spelling Bee champion, Shruthika Padhy, from Cherry Hill.
