2023 Boro Round Up
The Borough is excited to host The Merchantville Community Round Up, on Wednesday evening, March 22nd, at the Community Center from 6:00-8:00 p.m. The goal of this event is to connect Merchantville organizations with more members of the community. Many residents are eager to be involved but unsure of the many groups available to join and/or volunteer with. The event is structured like a “job fair” so, each group will have a table where they can display what they wish, have sign-up sheets and information to share about what their organization does and its mission in our community. We will offer crafts for the kids and have refreshments for all. We hope that you are able to take part in this year’s Merchantville Community Round Up and that it is a successful way to recruit new members and volunteers to your organization! Mayor Brennan will also announce the 2022 Volunteer of the Year! Please This email address is being protected from spambots. Water Quality Project Nears Completion
A $23 million project that dredged Newton Lake, Peter’s Creek and two ponds adjacent to the lake is out of the water. Launched in August of 2020 by the Board of Commissioners and the Camden County Municipal Utilities Authority (CCMUA,) the expansive project aimed to improve the water quality of these bodies of water. “This project has been an all-hands-on deck effort and its yet another substantial investment we have made into improving the health of our county’s waterways and natural landscapes,” said Commissioner Jeff Nash, liaison to the Parks Department. “Projects like this allow our residents and visitors to get continued enjoyment of Camden County’s parks and green spaces. Furthermore, this has ensured that we are preserving and building-up the banks of the creeks and lakes, supporting and allowing riparian buffers to grow, and trying to end much of the non-source point pollution that has contributed to the sedimentation of the waterway and spatterdock growth suffocating these bodies of water.” Read More.
2023 Town Halls
Let’s build a healthier, cleaner, & safer community-together! The Camden County Board of Commissioners is hosting a series of town hall meetings across Camden County, creating another level of access and opportunity. Representatives from all levels of government will be in attendance to update residents on projects and programming that are taking place in their neighborhood and across Camden County. The meeting also includes a Q&A session, providing residents the ability to ask questions and get answers straight from a representative of the governing body and for elected officials to hear directly from their constituents. Next meeting: Thursday, February 16th, 2023, Bud Duble Senior Center, 33 Cooper Folly Road Atco, NJ 08004. The Town Hall Live Stream will start before 6:30 p.m. If you have any issues viewing, you can also view live event on Camden County’s Facebook page. About Our Water
The Merchantville-Pennsauken Water Commission (MPWC) pumps groundwater from fifteen (15) wells that tap the Potomac-Raritan-Magothy Aquifer and transports it to the MPWC’s five (5) treatment facilities. The quantity of water that we are able to pump in any given minute, day, month or year is strictly governed by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. In total, MPWC has six (6) above ground water tanks, with the newest located in Cherry Hill. The total capacity of the above ground storage tanks is eight (8) million gallons of water. This type of water storage not only enhances water pressure - needed to take showers, sprinkle lawns and fight fires - but it also provides over a full days worth of water supply to our entire franchise area in case of an emergency situation. In 1993, the NJDEP permanently reduced our permitted annual pumping capacity. Consequently, we must augment our well water supply from other sources. Currently that source is New Jersey American Water Company. At the present time, a very small amount of water is purchased annually, which represents approximately 1% of our needs. NJWAC supplies water from three (3) sources: surface water from the Delaware River and groundwater from PRM and Mt. Laurel-Wenonah Aquifers.
