2015 Leaf Collection Guide
Beginning the week of October 19, 2015 the Department of Public Works will only accept leaves that are either in a container or bagged. You can bag your leaves in open paper bags or place them in open trash cans at curbside on the week of your Yard Waste/Brush collection day, which is now on alternating Mondays. Residents must comply with the following guidelines to ensure pickup of their leaves.
MPWC voted "best tasting" water
Over 970 drinking water professionals gathered in Atlantic City last week for the New Jersey Section American Water Works Association's (AWWA) 80th Annual Conference. The conference offered almost three full days of educational sessions on topics including water treatment, regulations, management and pipeline recovery.Seven organizations submitted samples for a public water taste test. Attendees were invited to try all the submissions and vote for their favorite, with Merchantville-Pennsauken Water Commission taking first place. http://bit.ly/1CnrSOr
PUBLIC NOTICE: Yard waste
A reminder from the Borough for Merchantville residents. Now that we are into Spring, Yard waste is collected on Mondays. East Side Yard Waste (Yellow Magnet) every 1st & 3rd Monday.West Side Yard Waste (Red Magnet) every 2nd & 4th Monday. No yard waste pick up on the 5th Monday. Magnets were distributed in the Fall. Please call Borough Hall (856) 662-2474 if you did not receive a magnet.
2015 Borough Dog Licensing
License must be obtained annually in the month of January. Fees: Spayed and Neutered $9.00, Unspayed and unneutered: $12.00. Licensing Age: Dogs over 7 months. Forms available at Borough Hall. Open Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Borough Notice: Commission members needed
Mayor and Council are preparing for the new year and several positions are available on borough boards and commissions. These are appointed and vary in the terms. Planning Board, Historic Preservation Commission, Shade Tree and Public Events are a few. Notice to Residents: Ongoing PSEG Construction in Merchantville
PSEG is beginning the restoration and paving work related to the electric transmission upgrades in Merchantville. Restoration work on Lexington Avenue between West Maple and North Chestnut will begin this week. Paving and restoration on Lexington Avenue between W. Maple and Wisteria Avenue has started in Pennsauken and will work its way north to Merchantville. They are scheduled to complete all paving by the second week of December.
Trick-or-Treat
The next Merchantville Public Event Committee sponsored event will be safe Halloween. Friday, October 31st beginning after school until 7:00pm. Look for the signs in the store windows for participating business owners. Please remember that curfew is 7:00PM on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week. PUBLIC NOTICE: Borough Recycling
The Borough has received complaints that residents have witnessed recycle items being placed in the trash truck along with regular trash. Republic has confirmed that some residents have placed trash in their recycling buckets. In this instance, the entire can of items is placed in the trash since it cannot be separated. Republic has now changed the policy and if trash and recycling is mixed in a can it will be left at the curb and not collected.
PSE&G construction update
Due to the recent snow storms, PSE&G has been delayed in the completion of the road work across Maple Avenue at Lexington Avenue. Pending any future weather events, PSE&G now hopes to complete this portion around February 18, 2014.
