Merchantville Woman’s Club Celebrates 120th Anniversary
To celebrate their 120th anniversary, the Woman’s Club of Merchantville will be hosting a special guest day on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 12:00 p.m. at the Merchantville Community Center, 212 Somerset Ave., Merchantville, NJ. The program will feature a brief history of the Merchantville Woman’s Club and its impact on our local community over the past 120 years. A special display of vintage clothing from Rebecca's Vintage Boutique & Consignment Shop of Bordentown, showing the evolution of women’s fashions from 1894 to 2014 will be presented. Light refreshments will be served. Muriel Graham, pianist at theater, Camac St. bar
Muriel Boushell Graham, 90, formerly of Pennsauken, a pianist for Haddonfield Plays and Players productions in the 1970s and 1980s, died at her home in Simpsonville, S.C., on Wednesday, March 4.
A memorial service has been set for 11 a.m. Saturday, June 13, at St. Peter's Church, 1 Hartford Rd., Medford. Born in Merchantville, Mrs. Graham graduated from Merchantville High School.
Corinne G. Shirk, 105
Corinne G. Shirk, formerly of Merchantville, NJ and Heron Point’s oldest resident passed away Monday, Feb. 16, 2015 at the age of 105. She was surrounded by her loving niece, Joan, and her caregiver, Pattie. Corrine was a teacher and retired from the Education Department on 07/74 after serving 34 years. Her hobbies were line dancing, handwork, knitting.
Nicholas Robert DiMatteo
Nicholas Robert DiMatteo, 30, of Oaklyn passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 13, 2014 with his loving family by his side. Nicholas attended Merchantville Elementary and Camden Catholic graduating in 2002. After graduation he went to school and became an Electrician and worked as an electrician for the Local 351 for 12 years. He loved hunting deer, fishing, and was a member of the Millville Gun Club. Nicholas was also a lifetime member of the NRA. In his spare time Nicholas enjoyed working on his jeep wrangler and spending time with his puppy Jase.
Gerda Cohn, 94
Gerda K. Cohn (Goaede), on October 8, 2014, age 94 years, of Merchantville, NJ. Born in Berlin, Germany. Beloved wife of the late Hans E. Cohn. Daughter of the late Albert Goaede and the late Marie (Linderman) Goaede. Aunt of Jurgen Laufer. Also survived by many friends. She was a homemaker. She was an active member of the Eastern Star and was a member of Eastern Star Chapter #55 and the Germania Maennerchor.
John T. Page Sr., 81
John T. Page Sr., 81, of Willow Grove, formerly of Malvern, a retired YMCA executive, died Friday, June 27. Born in Camden, he grew up in Merchantville and went to public school there. He graduated from Hofstra University with a bachelor's degree in economics. He performed his military service as a Navy Air Force control tower operator at the Guantanamo Bay Naval Base in Cuba from 1951 to 1955.
Gerald (“Jerry”) Dewhurst Button, 80
Gerald (“Jerry”) Dewhurst Button died peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by family members, on July 7, 2014, in Loveland, Colorado. Jerry was born in Sidney, Nebraska on November 26, 1933, to Percy Leroy (P.L.) and Nell Button. He was the second of two sons; the first, Paul John Button, was later ordained as a Catholic Priest.His mother told the story of setting Jerry on the floor with an alarm clock and a screw driver when he was 4 or 5.

Diane Lovell, 55, of Merchantville, passed away on Tuesday, June 24, 2014. She was born to Eileen Meyers (Huth) and the late Harry Meyers on September 26, 1958 in Philadelphia, PA. She was the wife of William H. Lovell Jr. for 18 years. In addition to her husband, William, she is survived by her mother, Eileen Meyers; two stepchildren Diana Lovell and Billy Lovell; a daughter, Danielle Press; a son, Robert Press; a brother, Harry Meyers and family; and a brother, Steven Meyers and spouse.

Suddenly on July 2, 2014, age 24, of Merchantville, NJ. She is survived by her mother Theressa (Terry) Irvin-Turner, stepfather Henry Leon Turner, father James Edward Irvin, brother Mark (Monica) Frieson, sister Tene (fiancée Devon Simmons), girlfriend Antoinette Harris, stepdaughter Sanaa Harris, 3 nieces Reyna, Angelina, and Jada, one nephew Dominic, and a host of stepbrothers, stepsisters, uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
Girls academy remembered
An upcoming event will bring together graduates of a long-closed Catholic girls high school in Haddonfield. But the guest of honor will have a unique tie to St. Mary of the Angels Academy, founded in 1945 in a converted house off North Kings Highway. It's the Blessed Mother — or more specifically, her statue.Graduates of the former St. Mary of the Angels Academy in Haddonfield are invited to a mass and statue dedication at Bishop Eustace Prep School, Route 70, Pennsauken at 1 p.m. May 18.
