2015 Borough Dog Licensing

nayLicense must be obtained annually in the month of January. Fees: Spayed and Neutered $9.00, Unspayed and unneutered: $12.00. Licensing Age: Dogs over 7 months. Forms available at Borough Hall. Open Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

PSEG is beginning the restoration and paving work related to the electric transmission upgrades in Merchantville. Restoration work on Lexington Avenue between West Maple and North Chestnut will begin this week. Paving and restoration on Lexington Avenue between W. Maple and Wisteria Avenue has started in Pennsauken and will work its way north to Merchantville. They are scheduled to complete all paving by the second week of December.

The next Merchantville Public Event Committee sponsored event will be safe Halloween. Friday, October 31st beginning after school until 7:00pm. The Merchantville Bike Trail starts at Cove Rd. and East Chestnut Ave. and runs across Centre St. and Browning Rd. to Euclid Ave. Created on the defunct lines of the Pennsylvania Railroad, you can see bikers, joggers, strollers, and dog walkers enjoying the mile and a half path on a daily basis.

Former resident honored

The Nantucket Council on Aging has named Michael Varbalow its 2014 Senior Citizen of the Year for their positive impact on the island’s elderly community and uplifting presence on a yearly basis. Varbalow, 75, grew up in the small town of Merchantville, N.J. and was raised by parents who were heavily involved in the community. He attributes his love for small towns and community service to them.

Memorial Day ceremony

A Memorial Day ceremony will take place in Wellwood Park at Maple & Linden Avenue on Monday, May 26th at 10:00 a.m. There will be a wreath laying, guest speakers and refreshments. The program will be conducted by the F.W.Grigg Post 68 Deputy Commander, The American Legion, Merchantville, New Jersey. In the event of inclement weather the service will be held at the Community Center, 212 Somerset Avenue.

New Borough grant announced

The West Maple Neighborhood Task Force received a federal grant for landscape improvements and street furniture  including trash cans, planters, benches, bike racks, etc. Please contact Denise Brouse, Borough Clerk at (856) 662-2474 X 103 if you are interested in FREE street trees, planters, a bench, grass strip, etc. in front of your site. Only property owners along Maple Avenue, between Wellwood Park and Route 130 in Merchantville and Pennsauken are eligible.

PUBLIC NOTICE: Borough Recycling

The Borough has received complaints that residents have witnessed recycle items being placed in the trash truck along with regular trash. Republic has confirmed that some residents have placed trash in their recycling buckets. In this instance, the entire can of items is placed in the trash since it cannot be separated. Republic has now changed the policy and if trash and recycling is mixed in a can it will be left at the curb and not collected.
