Please be advised that beginning on or about Monday, May 6th the following Borough roads are scheduled for concrete improvements, and the removal and repair of the existing roadway, a new asphalt surface course will be placed. No vehicles are to be parked in the roadway from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Westminster Avenue (from Maple Avenue to Somerset Street, Poplar Avenue (from Maple Avenue to Myrtle Avenue) and Cedar Avenue (from Centre Street to Penn Street). The work will be completed by Arawak Paving Company, Hammonton, NJ. During the service access to driveways may be curtailed. Resident inconvenience will be minimized as much as possible.

The Merchantville Police are investigating a missing juvenile. Madison Montalvo walked away from her residence on Tuesday, April 16th and has not returned. Madison is 5'01" with brown hair and brown eyes and is a freshman at Haddon Heights High School. If anyone has seen Madison or has any information on her whereabouts, please contact Merchantville Police at 856-662-0500. UPDATE on 4/26/19: Madison has been located and is unharmed. She is no longer listed as missing and has been turned over to her immediate family. The Merchantville Police Department would like to thank all of the outside agencies and residents who assisted with locating Madison.

On October 17, 2018 the Merchantville Historical Society met for their annual meeting with a presentation of Eagle Scout Zachary Moore's documentary "The Voices of Merchantville". Zachary showcased his presentation - as part of Camden County History Week - through interviews with 16 residents and collaborative research material. Over a period of 6 months, he was at the helm of his team of fellow scouts from Troop 119, producing, directing, and delegating, in order to execute the phases of his venture.

We will meet at the Wellwood Park gazebo, on West Maple Avenue between Linden and Hamilton Avenues, at 8:00 a.m., then divide and conquer 4 different West End green spots from there. Please bring any tools, gloves and friends. Bags will be provided. Merchantville's Garden Club plants and maintains 26 planters along the the West End park and business district. Easter is a Christian holiday that celebrates the belief in the resurrection of Jesus Christ. In the New Testament of the Bible, the event is said to have occurred three days after Jesus was crucified by the Romans and died in roughly 30 A.D. The holiday concludes the “Passion of Christ,” a series of events and holidays that begins with Lent—a 40-day period of fasting, prayer and sacrifice—and ends with Holy Week, which includes Holy Thursday (the celebration of Jesus’ Last Supper with his 12 Apostles), Good Friday (on which Jesus’ crucifixion is observed), and Easter Sunday. Although a holiday of high religious significance in the Christian faith, many traditions associated with Easter date back to pre-Christian, pagan times.
Easter falls on a different date each year. Easter Sunday and related celebrations, such as Ash Wednesday and Palm Sunday, are considered “moveable feasts,” although, in western Christianity, which follows the Gregorian calendar, Easter always falls on a Sunday between March 22nd and April 25th. In Eastern Orthodox Christianity, which adheres to the Julian calendar, Easter falls on a Sunday between April 4th and May 8th each year. In some denominations of Protestant Christianity, Easter Sunday marks the beginning of Eastertide, or the Easter Season. Eastertide ends on the 50th day after Easter, which is known as Pentecost Sunday.
The egg, an ancient symbol of new life, has been associated with pagan festivals celebrating spring. From a Christian perspective, Easter eggs are said to represent Jesus' emergence from the tomb and resurrection.

Merchantville School stresses the importance of reading to the students. This week is designated "Read Across Our Community" where our students will participate in a variety of activities to promote reading. Today classes welcomed guest readers and classes took trips to various locations in Merchantville, like Council chambers, to hear from guest readers like Mayor Brennan. Thank you to all the people that took time to promote the most important life long skill that students need in order to succeed - READING. It was a great success and all involved had a great time.

Merchantville American Legion Post #68 along with Borough Officials would like to invite all residents and the public to the Corporal Grigg Way Street Dedication on May 4th at 9:30 a.m. at the corner of Alexander and West Chestnut Avenues. This historic and special event is being held to rename West Chestnut Avenue after a young man that was recognized by the WW1 Battle Commission. He is the namesake of Merchantville's American Legion Post and one of the most heroic young men that called our community home. Corporal Frederick Grigg enlisted at the age of 15 and served on two fronts with the US Army and New Jersey National Guard, he was killed in action during WW1 at the age of 18. 100 years later we will honor his legacy of service and sacrifice with a tribute in front of the very house where his family lived. We hope you can join us. Light refreshments will be served following the service.

Hampton Road will be CLOSED TO ALL TRAFFIC between Chapel Ave and Cuthbert Blvd for redevelopment work, starting Monday morning 04/01/19 continuing 24 hours per day through mid-June. Access will be available to Cioffi's Towing from Chapel Ave. Access to the NJMVS Inspection Station and Courier-Post offices will be available from Cuthbert Blvd. Detours will be posted- please use Rt 38, Cuthbert Blvd, and Chapel Ave to navigate around this long-term closure.

The Merchantville Police Department will be cracking down on distracted driving during the month of April as part of New Jersey’s UDRive. UText. UPay. enforcement campaign. Running April 1 – April 21, the high visibility law enforcement initiative will target motorists who engage in dangerous distracted driving behaviors such as talking on hand-held cell phones and sending text-messages while driving. In New Jersey, driver inattention was listed as a contributing factor in 53 percent of the state’s crashes in 2016. Driver inattention was in fact listed as a contributing factor in crashes at a rate nine times higher than that of the next highest contributing factor (speed). Because of this, New Jersey was one of only four states nationally to receive dedicated federal grant funding to combat distracted driving. The UDrive. UText. UPay. enforcement campaign is being held in April, which the National Safety Council has designated as Distracted Driving Awareness Month.
