Fire departments in Merchantville and Audubon will receive approximately $486,000 in federal funding to hire firefighters and purchase equipment. The grants announced on Wednesday, 1/23, will be used to add three firefighters in Merchantville and 33 self-contained breathing apparatuses in Audubon, according to U.S. Rep. Rob Andrews, D-N.J. Merchantville is receiving the bulk of the grant at $300,000.
The grant was awarded through the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response program of the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency.
