Over 970 drinking water professionals gathered in Atlantic City last week for the New Jersey Section American Water Works Association's  (AWWA) 80th Annual Conference. The conference offered almost three full days of educational sessions on topics including water treatment, regulations, management and pipeline recovery.Seven organizations submitted samples for a public water taste test. At the Borough Council meeting on March 9th, Mayor Brennan introduced Ordinance 15-02 to regulate the use of tobacco products in all public buildings and spaces owned, operated or used for official business by the municipality, including public areas and recreation facilities. The public hearing for this Smoke-Free Ordinance will take place on Monday, April 13, 2015 in Council chambers at 7:30 p.m. in Borough Hall, 1 West Maple Avenue. After public comment it will be considered for adoption. The ordinance will be added as Chapter 83A and is available for viewing prior to the meeting. Merchantville's Municipal Code can be accessed online.

PSEG is beginning the restoration and paving work related to the electric transmission upgrades in Merchantville. Restoration work on Lexington Avenue between West Maple and North Chestnut will begin this week. Paving and restoration on Lexington Avenue between W. Maple and Wisteria Avenue has started in Pennsauken and will work its way north to Merchantville. They are scheduled to complete all paving by the second week of December.

The next Merchantville Public Event Committee sponsored event will be safe Halloween. Friday, October 31st beginning after school until 7:00pm.
