For parents in the Borough of Merchantville, the opportunity to send their kids to Haddon Heights High School was a welcome option after more than 40 years of trying. But since then, some say getting their kids there every morning has become a hardship among missed or late pick-ups. The bus should drop off students in the morning between 7:45 and 7:50 a.m. so students have enough time to get to their homerooms or 1st period and it's reached a breaking point this year amid a national bus driver shortage. The Merchantville School District is responsible to provide student transportation to and from Haddon Heights High School, as well as certain other out-of-district placements.  The district utilizes the Camden County Educational Service Commission (CCESC) who directly contracts with various busing companies that can meet our student transportation needs. Nationally, death and illness from COVID-19 has resulted in massive bus driver shortages and in some cases the choice to supplement with National Guard. Read the article at NJ Pen.

The Haddon Heights High School Marching Band and Color Guard - one-third students from Merchantville - won the USBands State Championship on November 3rd. They also were awarded Best Guard, Best Percussion, Best Visual, and Best Effect with their show, Keys of Life. This is the 2nd year in a row winning they have won the title and look forward to the Independence Class Championships sponsored by the The Cavalcade of Bands, a non profit organization composed of over one hundred member schools coming together to compete on the interscholastic level at West Chester University next Saturday, November 9th.

Merchantville PTA congratulations to the Haddon Heights Indoor Color Guard teams and the Haddon Heights High School Indoor Percussion Group on their performances at the South Jersey Region 1 Championships. The color guard High Voltage (High School) placed Silver, and the percussion group placed 4th with their amazing 2019 program, “Contagious.”  All the teams worked hard and long hours this season and deserve a big HOORAY for their achievements. Both teams have quite a few former Merchantville School students as members. We salute their hard work and dedication this season.

Haddon Heights Course Information Night for 8th graders attending Haddon Heights High School next year as 9th graders will take place at Merchantville School on Wednesday, January 15th from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. Haddon Heights Jr./Sr. High School continues to be proud of its tradition of excellent academic performance and high standards for all students. The high number of students who move on to post-secondary education and the military continues to be competitive nationally. Students and staff have access to current technology to assist teaching and learning. Students are participants in Google Classroom where they can share and interact with other students and teachers in a learning environment that opens up opportunities outside the classroom walls. Students, parents, and professional staff focus on the academic pursuits that prepare the students to enter high school as confident learners. Camden Catholic offers a wide array of summer experiences for students in grammar and middle school. Each camper is required to complete a medical form, provide immunization records, and receive parent permission in order to participate. Summer Programs fees range from $150-450 and include: Theater, Theatre Tech Camp, High School Theatre Ensemble, Fine Art, Expressive Drawing & Painting, Digital Art, Study Skills, High School Placement Test (2 sessions) and High School Transition.

Camden Catholic High School mourns the passing of one of our greatest honorary alumni, Coach Jim Delaney, former football coach and faculty member. Coach Delaney is revered among generations of alumni for his legendary coaching style, mentorship and inspirational leadership. He coached the Irish to 62 wins in a total of 13 seasons and is the all-time leader in football wins for the green and white. His 1966 team went 9-0, winning the SJ Parochial A Title, one of only three undefeated football teams in school history. Delaney also is the only Camden Catholic football coach, other than Tom Kenney, to have five consecutive teams with winning records, and six straight non-losing seasons. His 1979 Parochial A Championship team was recently inducted into the Camden Catholic Hall of Fame on April 14, 2019. At the time of their win in '79, Coach Delaney had remarked "Camden Catholic's Fighting Irish is a prime example of how an impossible task can be accomplished with the effort and determination of the team and the support of the school."
