Continuing one of IE Merchantville's small action, edible garden projects for the 4th year in a row began today with a lot of weeding, laying of barrier paper and adding topsoil and compost in hopes of making the 2023 growing season along the tennis court wall at Wellwood Park a successful one. Joan Brennan and her grandson, Jack, worked to clear the brick perimeter planter of leaves, weeds and debris before prepping the area with a fresh layer of nitrogen enriched topsoil. Already blooming at the sunny end
of the brick wall was a healthy patch of perennial Oregano and Egyptian Walking Onions - donated by Caitlin O'Mara from her home garden last year. This garden will also contain two tomato plants and some herbs and lettuce towards the shadier end of the wall.
