Americans will once again be able to get free at-home COVID tests this fall. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced that it will spend $600 million to buy and offer the tests, produced by 12 domestic manufacturers, and it will begin accepting orders for those tests at the end of September through covidtests.gov. U.S. households will be eligible to order 4 free COVID-19 tests to detect current COVID-19 variants that can be used through the end of the 2024 year. There are also
No-Cost testing locations as well as Test-to-Treat locations available. People without health insurance do not have to pay for COVID-19 testing at certain locations. Search the CDC’s Testing Locator for a location near you. At Test-to-Treat locations you can get both COVID-19 testing and treatment. Some sites also offer telehealth.
