Yesterday Dr. Deborah Birx emphasized that hotspots will see an increase in deaths over the next 6-7 days and the next two weeks will be crucial for the effort to flatten the curve and, unless it's essential to leave home during the next 14 days, Americans shouldn't. “This is the moment to not be going to the grocery store,” she said, “not going to the pharmacy, but doing everything you can to keep your family safe. And that means everybody doing the six-feet distancing, washing your hands.” She noted that she can tell by looking at the US curve of coronavirus cases that not every American is following the guidelines set out by the administration for people to stay home and be vigilant about washing their hands.

Dr. Emily Landon is an Associate Professor of Medicine and Executive Medical Director, Infection Prevention and Control at the University of Chicago Medicine. Her research is focused on protecting patients from the harm and mortality that come from healthcare-associated infections and suboptimal use of antibiotics and other antimicrobials. She studies novel electronic hand hygiene monitoring techniques and evaluates the impact of direct, individual-level feedback to encourage provider actions that prevent infections. Advocare Merchantville Pediatrics urges please call us first rather than using the Emergency Department or Urgent Care Centers for non-life threatening issues, as there are many conditions that can be treated in the office. Please note the following precautionary measures our office is taking to protect you, your child, and our staff. Our waiting rooms are separated between sick and well. All books, magazines, and toys have been removed. The playhouse will be closed until further notice, which has saddened many of our patients. The office will be closed at lunchtime for a thorough cleaning. We are limiting well exams to the morning. We will be contacting you to reschedule afternoon well exams and also to confirm your existing morning well exam. We will have a tent outside if your child is very sick and needs to be seen in the morning. Please do not hesitate to call the office anytime for sick children. We also may ask to see you outside if you or your child is coughing or has a fever. We will see sick children from 1:00 p.m. to closing. Please do not hesitate to call us at any time. As always, your child's health is our main concern.
