Mayor Dracula of Monsterville shared a video announcement from the Borough of Monsterville about plans for a modified 2020 Monsterville schedule of events. Monsterville is strongly discouraging TRICK-OR-TREATING as recommended by the CDC but, residents who choose to enjoy that activity will be permitted to between 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 31st. The Haunts of Monsterville - a decorating competition for businesses and residences - will go on as always with online voting taking place between October 23rd-25th. Stay tuned for a list of participating haunts! 8th Grade students from Merchantville School will host a Monsterville Haunted Circus Parade through the streets of Monsterville starting at 5:30pm on Saturday, October 24th. This will take the place of their annual Haunted House and support fundraising for their graduation in June. And, have you been BOOed? Keep an eye out on your front porch!

Borough enforcement of parking permits will resume on October 1, 2020. Parking on the streets and highways of Merchantville is prohibited between the hours of 2:00 am and 6:00 am, 7 days a week without a parking permit. Parking permits can be obtained from police headquarters, M-F, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm. Parking Permit Application. Residents needing to call a vehicle in for overnight parking now have two options. The Oaks Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997. "The Oaks," located in Merchantville, New Jersey, is a planned neighborhood of upscale, early-twentieth century suburban houses envisioned by landscape architect George E. Rhedemeyer and developed by the Oaks Realty Company which he formed in 1910. Designed during the early years of the automobile age and for the most part, before the First World War, The Oaks became Merchantville's twentieth-century showcase and its gateway for vehicular traffic entering the Borough from Wellwood Avenue, later renamed Browning Road, and includes 320 W. Maple Ave., 101-201 (odd numbers) Browning Rd, 308-318 (even numbers) Volan St., and 1-3 Oak Terrace. The Oaks Historic District contains an assemblage of the period's revival styles, several representatives of which were designed by Arnold H. Moses, long-time Merchantville resident and the Borough's most prolific architect during the first quarter of the twentieth century. Because The Oaks contains a concentrated group of Merchantville's most fashionable residences associated with the automobile age of the Borough's developmental history, and the resources reflect the discrete plan laid out by Rhedemeyer and the architectural work of Moses, the district is eligible for the National Register of Historic Places. The period of significance begins with Rhedemeyer's acquisition of the land in 1909 and terminates around 1937 when the last of the initial homes in The Oaks was built. The Merchantville Public Events Committee has decided to cancel the borough's annual Town Wide Yard Sale this year due to Covid-19. This event ordinarily takes place on the 3rd Saturday in September and includes lots of homeowners eager to rid their attics, basements and garages of many treasures unearthed during spring cleaning. It's also a great opportunity to market our town usually drawing large crowds of yard sale junkies. As per the governor’s order for gatherings, the Public Events Committee chose not to draw large crowds to our area but, individual yard sales can still take place in town following the state's outdoor mask and distancing requirements. It's the perfect time to become a member of the Shade Tree Commission! A Street tree inventory will soon be underway by a Tree Professional (pursuant to a DEP grant) to assess tree conditions, risks, and tree/sidewalk conflicts. The tree inventory will serve as the foundation for developing a plan for future tree maintenance, planting, and removal. Great way to begin your time on the Commission! Our Shade Tree volunteers plant and maintain all curbside trees in the Borough. Other responsibilities include: removal and/or trimming of curbside and public trees, reporting tree related problems to other Borough agencies, maintaining Tree City USA status, conducting Arbor Day ceremonies, providing tips to the public on general tree maintenance, providing guidelines for dealing with tree damaged sidewalks and, managing the Affiliated memorial tree and plaque program. Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli Jr., was joined today by Camden County’s business advocates, Congressman Donald Norcross and clergy to announce a forthcoming grant funding program for small businesses launching on July 23rd. The county has received federal funds from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act to assist struggling businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic. As we navigate through this public health crisis, we know that merchants on Main Street are hurting and it is imperative to make every effort to get them additional financial assistance.
