Trees abound at west gateway Featured
Members of the West Maple Neighborhood and the New Jersey Tree Foundation are planting 34 trees along West Maple Avenue and the Federal Street Overpass on Wednesday, May 1st and Thursday, May 2st. "It has been a long road with several unexpected hurdles, such as an abundance of underground utilities, causing us to reduce and change planting locations", said project coordinator, Mara Wuebker, from Ragan Design.
This project will benefit the quality of life and greatly improve the vista along the western gateway to Merchantville and Pennsauken. The improvements can be seen at Angelo’s Townline to break up the scale of the long industrial fence and to aesthetically improve the entrance into the neighborhood from Maple Avenue; Comcast to green and screen the industrial building by replacing arborvitae in front of the fence; at a residence to provide privacy in the rear yard, to screen noise from the Federal Street Overpass, and to improve the appearance of the Overpass entrance into the neighborhood bringing some much needed shade; in front of Jay and Kay Rental Apartments to soften and improve the appearance, provide shade, and with the added bonus of a nice scent of lilacs as you enter; and on borough and township property to provide shade.
If you like what you see, give us a thumbs up as you drive by. We continue to look for assistance with watering. If you would like to donate any gator bags or let us borrow some, we’d really appreciate it. Also, Mike Carruth, Pennsauken Shade Tree Commission Chair, would love an extra set of hands to help him and the property owners with watering.
