The Borough of Merchantville and Township of Pennsauken are applying for DOT transportation enhancement grants to improve the gateway into the West Maple neighborhood. The Ragan Design Group is looking for letters of support from residents, businesses, County and local groups like the Shade Tree Commission, Garden Club Task Force and Historic Preservation Commission. Pennsauken will be applying for a grant to acquire and demolish the vacant former Kawasaki site. This will be the first step in achieving our ‘Welcome to the Neighborhood’ Gateway Entrance vision.

As many of you know, the building has been vacant for a long time and is in poor condition, having an adverse effect on the entire neighborhood as it is the first thing you see when you enter the neighborhood from Route 130. The building also blocks the sight visibility for drivers traveling onto Route 130 from Maple Avenue. Merchantville will be applying to be the lead for a grant for streetscape improvements (street trees, planters, benches, trash receptacles) to Maple Avenue in both the Pennsauken and Merchantville portions of the neighborhood. The due date for the grant is mid-July so please don’t wait!

Both of these proposals are a result of the work of our West Maple Task Force member meetings, public workshops, and brainstorming sessions that occurred during our first phase of study of the neighborhood.  Please send letters of support to Mara Wuebker, Ragan Design Group, LLC, 30 Jackson Road, Suite C-3, Medford, NJ 08055 or via e-mail to This email address is being protected from spambots.
