As part of the roadway widening and drainage improvement project on Route 130 from the former Collingswood Circle to North Park Drive, a temporary pedestrian bridge will be installed over the Cooper River. This temporary structure will be in place during the road construction to allow uninterrupted access to Cooper River Park’s 3.7 mile loop that is utilized by walkers, runners and bikers every day. The Camden County Parks Department is also working to create a better version of one of Camden County’s great parks. The Freeholder Board has approved a $5 million plan that will add new features and improve existing attributes of Cooper River Park so that it may continue to serve a large and diverse population for years to come. The goals of the plan include protecting the river and the park by creating natural buffers to stabilize the banks, and to promote environmental awareness through signage and educational tours. It also seeks to expand views of the river by reducing vegetation in selected areas and providing designated public space at the river’s edge.
