This year May 9th - May 15th encompasses National Police Week. In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15th as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15th falls, as National Police Week. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others. Due to certain restrictions imposed by COVID-19 most of the events surrounding police week will be held virtually this year. For a listing of events and how to view them please see the below image.
So far this year 119 Law Enforcement Officers have lost their lives while serving their communities. Join the live stream Candlelight Vigil on Thursday, May 13th at 8:00 p.m. on Facebook.
