Politicians in seven Camden County towns have requested a feasibility study to explore a merger of upper-level police management. Animal shelter struggling
Begun in 2007 as a temporary stopgap for the animal services needs of several towns along the Camden and Burlington County border, the Pennsauken-based Almost Home Animal Shelter is in dire financial straits, says Executive Director Nancy Welsh. The shelter needs volunteers for any number of tasks. It's not just walking dogs, playing with cats and cleaning kennels - although those are critically necessary services.
Teen IDs Bike Thief
A Cherry Hill man was arrested for theft after Cherry Hill Police said an alert teen spotted him grabbing two bicycles Monday night from the back yard of a home on Spruce Street, on the Cherry Hill - Merchantville border. Brian Grayson, 50, of Wisteria Avenue, was caught after Cherry Hill and Merchantville officers searched the area following the report of the thefts, which came around 9:15 p.m., police said.

Metro Division takes to the streets
This week, more than 30 Metro Division Officers were deployed into streets of Camden City. These officers are beginning their eight weeks of field training. The field training is being given by former members of the Camden City Police Department now employed in the Metro Division. The practical field training follows two weeks of agency orientation
Resident stops alleged purse snatcher
Cherry Hill police report that a purse-snatcher wanted in multiple towns might’ve gotten away, had an alert Merchantville man not chased down the thief. The alleged thief, David Zane Jr., of Westville, was talking with a woman outside Pathmark on Church Road Sunday afternoon, when he suddenly grabbed the woman’s purse and took off running, police said. But Merchantville resident Gerald Smith, who was outside the supermarket waiting for his family, saw the alleged theft go down and chased down Zane, then held him until officers arrived on scene.
