Arts center to open downtown
We are excited to announce the opening of Eilandarts Center in Merchantville on April 14, 2013. It's a place where people of all ages can come to explore, learn, be engaged and grow. Our goal is to inspire and create a platform for a creative outlet in all the arts. By nurturing each individual’s creative potential, we aim to provide social and cultural benefits to the community as a whole.
Cherry Hill honors resident
It was just over a month ago when Merchantville resident Gerald Smith chased down a man he saw allegedly grab a purse from a woman outside Pathmark on Church Road. Monday night, Smith was recognized by the township council, who honored him at the start of their regular meeting by giving him a proclamation and declaring April 9 as Gerald Smith Day. Smith's quick actions were credited by police in stopping David Zane Jr., of Westville, who police said not only snatched a woman's purse that afternoon, but was wanted in multiple other towns on various charges.
2013-14 School Budget
Within this budget all current programs are maintained and there are some enhancements to adhere with state mandates. 2013-2014 Budget Information Banked cap will be used in order to exceed the 2% cap plus 1.25% adjusted Health Care Cap. School Choice and Pre-School aid increases represent $278,475 which is 89% of the total state aid increase.
Driver remains in rehab
A man remains in a rehab facility awaiting indictment on charges that he was high on PCP and driving the wrong way when he struck and killed a mother and her teenage daughter. Keith Johnson was allegedly driving his Dodge Durango 100 mph in the wrong direction when he struck a Honda Odyssey driven by Anada Medina at the intersection of Chapel and Russell Avenues in Merchantville, N.J. in January. http://bit.ly/WSi281
