The annual Merchantville Birthday Celebration is fast approaching. Many of the preparations have been handled already however, we are in need of volunteers to help staff the event.  The Birthday will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2014 on the grounds of Wellwood Park from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.Wellwood Park is located between West Maple, Hamilton and Linden Avenues. This is a rain or shine event. There will be traditional picnic, games, races including potato-sack, three legged and egg/spoon; a pie eating contest, a bounce house, balloon clowns and a dunk tank to name few. Refreshments by Cabana Water Ice. Music and entertainment will please the crowd throughout the day. 

The Public Events Committee welcomes additional volunteers to help on the day of this event beginning around 9:30 AM to coordinate vendors, setup etc.  We appreciate any time you can give us at any point in the day if you can't stay the whole time. Today is Primary Election Day in Merchantville. Our polling place is in the basement of the Community/Senior Citizen Center, 212 Somerset Street, at the end of Greenleigh Court. Polls are open from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. On the Democratic ballot for Mayor and Council are Edward (Ted) Brennan, Andrew McLoone and Katherine Swann and, for County Freeholder, Louis Cappelli, Joseph Ripa and Scot McCray. There are no candidates for County Freeholder or local government listed on the Rebublican Primary ballot.

Register for Merchantville Little League on March 1, 2014 at the Community Center between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. This will be the final in-person opportunity to complete paperwork for the 2014 season. Registration is open for Baseball and Softball Tee-Ball, Coach Pitch, Minors, Majors, Baseball-50/70 and Juniors. Opening Day is Saturday, April 12th. Festivities will take place at the Main Field on Clayton Avenue.

The Woman’s Club of Merchantville will sponsor the second annual Taste of Pennsauken on Monday, March 31 at the Pennsauken Country Club, 3800 Haddonfield Rd., from 6 to 9 p.m. Tick- ets are $20 and attendees will have an opportunity to sample some of this area’s finest cuisine.Many of the restaurants from last year are returning and The Woman’s Club is looking to having more restaurants par- ticipate this year.Last year,over 100 peo- ple attended, giving restaurants the opportunity to promote their businesses.Proceeds will benefit Pennsauken’s Neighbors Helping Neighbors, a non- profit organization whose mission is to award grants up to $1000 to helpPennsauken residents who are strug- gling financially due to an unforeseen life crisis.For more information, to register your restaurant or catering business, or to order tickets, contact Geri Tabako at 856- 665-5468.

Five inches of snow or more is possible for far southern New Jersey, Delaware, southern Maryland, central and northern Virginia, the District of Columbia and West Virginia. Within this swath, a few spots could see up to one foot of total snow through late Monday afternoon.  The following schools are closed: Merchantville School District, Pennsauken Township School District, Camden Catholic, St. Peter School, St Stephen's School, Camden Co. Technical School District, Bishop Eustace Prep, Paul VI High School and Audubon School District. 

The Merchantville Police Department is taking part in a new system to help make your home safer, "INCASE". The system is electronically coded with three key pieces of information: the exact address of the home to which it is attached, the name of the homeowner, and the cell phone number of the homeowner.

The Merchantville-Pennsauken Water Commission has rescheduled its regularly scheduled business meeting for the month of February, due to inclement weather. The meeting will take place on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. in the G. Burton German Meeting Room, 6751 Westfield Ave., Pennsauken, NJ.
