The Camden County Library’s M. Allan Vogelson Branch in Voorhees will host a lecture for parents about how they can teach their children to practice Internet safety on Tuesday, March 13, 7:00 p.m. Phyllis Kae who served as a lead independent investigator for the City of Camden and was one
the first female investigators in the Camden County Prosecutor’s office will discuss the dangers of cyberspace for the young who are growing up in a digital world where the Internet is a part of their daily experience.
Whether gaming on the Internet, creating their first email account or owning their first smart phone, Kae contends children face all kinds of dangers for which they and their parents are not prepared. Kae is concerned with “the social media tsunami that is sweeping over your kids. Just as soon as your three-year-old can manage a keystroke or two, you have a techno-tot on the periphery of this phenomenon.”
The risks for children and families can range from someone hacking into the home computer to predators who stalk unsuspecting children on the Internet, claims Kae. The program will offer specific advice on what parents can do to protect their children.
