Hospice and Palliative Care Month

November is National Hospice and Palliative Care Month, a time to recognize the importance of compassionate, person-centered care for individuals facing serious illness and their families. At the New Jersey Healthcare Quality Institute, our Conversation of Your Life (COYL) program promotes advance care planning by helping people discuss and document their wishes for future health care, including the care they would want if they could no longer speak for themselves.

You can’t always predict when a medical emergency or serious illness will happen and the impact it will have. However, you can prepare ahead for these events by sharing your wishes for care. Through education and community engagement, COYL Toolkit encourages individuals to have these important conversations with loved ones and health care providers so their preferences are understood and respected. This month, we encourage New Jersey residents to take the first step in planning for their future health care needs.

The Mayors Wellness Campaign is sponsored by the New Jersey Healthcare Quality Institute, dedicated to improving the safety, quality, and affordability of health care for everyone.
