During the last Borough Council meeting Merchantville took official action on several agenda items and moved to electrify its vehicle rules and fleet, adopting an electric-vehicle ordinance and a policy that will steer future borough vehicle purchases toward hybrid and alternative-fuel models. The electric-vehicle ordinance adds a new article to Chapter 86 governing vehicles and traffic, was adopted with a last-minute amendment striking the words “bicycle paths” from one section so the rules apply to roadways only. The ordinance passed, as did the fleet policy, which was approved as part of a slate of 11 resolutions read together under the consent agenda.
The council also adopted an ordinance permitting extra-duty police work within the borough, and separately authorized an agreement with Hart Halsey LLC, a Shelton, CT, law enforcement consulting company with an office in Manasquan, Monmouth County, to run the side-work program for police staff. The extra-duty measure drew no public comment during its hearing.
Merchantville Borough Council meetings are held in person at Borough Hall and are streamed live via the municipal YouTube channel. Council meeting agendas are posted prior to each meeting. Council meeting minutes are posted for the public on the municipal website after transcribed and approved by Council.
