The Merchantville Elementary School (MES) 8th Grade Haunted House is a beloved community tradition that has been running for roughly 40 years. Organized by the graduating 8th-grade class, their parents, and teachers, this event serves as the primary fundraiser to cover graduation-year expenses like the class trip, graduation ceremony, and their class gift. This year the theme is “Haunted Jail”. The event takes place right at Merchantville School, typically utilizing the blacktop or gym entrance area.
The school offers two options for families: The Not-So-Spooky / Non-Scary Hour (6:00 PM – 7:00 PM) designed for younger children (typically ages 5+). The lights stay on, and the “scar-actors” wave and smile instead of jumping out; or, the Scary Hours (7:00 PM – 10:00 PM) where the real frights begin for those looking for a genuine scare. The fundraiser also features a concession stand with baked goods, refreshments, and raffles to help boost the 8th-grade graduation fund.
Admission: Traditionally, tickets are highly affordable—costing around $5 for adults and $3 for kids. The haunted house is a centerpiece attraction of the Merchantville’s month-long “Monsterville” transformation every October.
