On the BOE agenda for the May 29th public meeting is the approval of two new hires. Krista Travaglini in the newly created position of Director of Equity, Curriculum and Instruction at a starting salary of $87,500, and Nicole Jones for 6 hours a week of instruction for the Summer Enhancement Program to run Monday, June 24 – Thursday, July 25 from 1:30 pm – 3:00 pm. Ms. Travaglini has 16 years of experience as a reading and literacy specialist, most recently in the South Harrison Township school district. The Board is also expected to approve co-curricular, advisors and coaching positions for the 2019-2020 school year. Adenda.

Congratulations toMerchantville School students Jessica Katzberg, Tim Rocchi and Ava Kelly and teacher, Dina Turan, in winning the 2019 American Legion of Merchantville/Pennsauken essay contest about Americanism. Our MES students took first, second and third place in this annual competition sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary for grades third (3) through twelfth (12). The contest has different classifications pertaining to grouping or classes. Essays need to be at least 150 to 500 words depending upon which “class” the student falls under. 

St. Peter School is proud to announce that our very own students will be performing our 2019 school musical, "Annie Jr." on Thursday, May 16th at 7:00 p.m., Friday, May 17th at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, May 18th at 2:00 p.m. SPS rolled out its new performing arts club, the St. Peter Performers, this past fall. To help support this new endeavor we will be putting together an ad and patron book which will be distributed to everyone who comes to our performances. 

 

On Wednesday, May 1, 2019, the President of Camden County College, Mr. Donald A. Borden, and staff will be presenting to Haddon Heights High School juniors and seniors on various collegiate topics. Throughout the year, the High School administration has reached out and met with student leaders and discussed several concerning issues that our upperclassman are facing during this transitional phase of their lives. Mr. Borden and his colleagues will present on the registration process, course selection, time management, the importance of a structured daily living schedule, getting involved, and meeting new individuals. They will take questions, as well, from the students. Garnet Country is excited and proud to have members of our local community college present and to help prepare our students for their next step of their lives.

Merchantville PTA congratulations to the Haddon Heights Indoor Color Guard teams and the Haddon Heights High School Indoor Percussion Group on their performances at the South Jersey Region 1 Championships. The color guard High Voltage (High School) placed Silver, and the percussion group placed 4th with their amazing 2019 program, “Contagious.”  All the teams worked hard and long hours this season and deserve a big HOORAY for their achievements. Both teams have quite a few former Merchantville School students as members. We salute their hard work and dedication this season.

The Merchantville Board of Education will present their 2019-20 school district budget, followed by a public hearing at the Tuesday, April 30th, meeting. NJAC 6:19-2.7(a) requires the Merchantville Board of Education adopt and submit a formal Board resolution to approve the 2019-2020 school budget as presented by the administration. The budget includes a General Fund a tax levy of $5,779,264.00 for the ensuing School Year (2019-2020) and a Debt Service tax levy of $125,914.00. The meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. The BOE will also recommend approval of $94,110.00 in Preschool Education Aid for the 2019-2020 school year during the meeting. Full agenda.
